    I worked at Deacons full-time

    Pros

    Reasonably good clientele.

Reasonably good range of cases. Good learning opportunities within work.

Training (IT, legal updates etc), seminars and social gathering with colleagues available from time to time.

    Cons

Relatively low on salary, in comparison with law firms of similar ranking and size.

Not much scope for further advancement in the career ladder.

Not very sensible billing target when the caseload given could not match up with it.

Office politics and unbelivably hierarchical - people treat you based on where you stand in the hierarchy. I was even told on few occasions that I should only get help from colleagues within the same rank, rather than from the handling solicitors...... Strong feeling of working alone rather than as a team.

That said, there are still some nice seniors and colleagues around, if you are lucky.

    Advice to Management

Encourage stronger team work and supportive culture rather than having class division and refusing to help your subordinates. Reward them reasonably. Afterall, paralegals' roles are substantial especially within a large law firm.

  2. "Intern"

I worked at Deacons as an intern

    Pros

Nice working environment; good training; good exposure; lots of activities; nice staff; good staff support, not too long working hours.

    Cons

They hire lots of interns each year and therefore there is keen competition between interns for training contracts. Be prepared for lots of assessments.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice if there could be more feedback from the seniors and/or partners as to the work performed by interns.
