I have been working at Dealer.com (More than a year)

    Pros

great culture. friendly and helpful people. gym in house with free massages. play ping pong throughout the day. freedom with development

    Cons

rapid growth puts strain on more senior members to aid new developers. some people are complacent with coming in late and leaving early.

    Advice to Management

hold more people accountable for not filling their job position. I only see the most extreme cased of people removed or changed in the company.

    Pros

Had a phone interview with the HR recruiter. She was very nice and helpful and set up a conference call with three team managers. Overall a great experience.

    Cons

There really are no cons. It's a great company with a great culture, community involvement, and superior corporate values.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that they respond a little quicker.

I have been working at Dealer.com full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Dealer.com feels like coming to work with friends and family. Most people are accepting and friendly - management really wants you to succeed. Each division may be different but the client services organization is very welcoming.

    Cons

Working in client services can be stressful. There is a lot of pressure for success and with the changes through acquisition recently the churn has been fairly high which puts even more pressure on client services to retain business. Overall, the pros out way the cons if you have a good work attitiude

    Advice to Management

All managers should work with their teams on career development. Not everyone does, but I've been fortunate to have all managers that are supportive and want to see me grow.

I have been working at Dealer.com full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Beer Friday, events nearly every other week, gym onsite, smart co-workers, no micro-management. Cafe onsite. Offices all over the country.

    Cons

Client load for each individual team member makes giving every account the detailed attention it needs impossible. Many employees rush through work with no attention to detail simply to say it's complete (because of the heavy caseload).

    Advice to Management

Lessen the load, make career paths more visible. There needs to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I have been working at Dealer.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Dealer.com may not appeal to all. The environment is fast paced and has grown at an incredible scale. Occasional platform growing pains are opportunities. Development teams are given autonomy to own their platfornew and features.

    Cons

An agile responsive organization translates to difficulty anticipating where solutions will go. Requirements can change repidly.

    Advice to Management

Don'the forget to look down as you climb up. Mentoring and development are hit or miss.

    Pros

The mix of people is amazing. The salaries are competitive, and the health benefits are great. Locally sourced food is prepared and sold in 3 different cafes and indoor gym is on site.

    Cons

Many acquisitions recently and it can be difficult to stay on top of all of the company integrations and updated policies.

    Pros

DDC still has good benefits. Work with smart, generous, aggressive people.

    Cons

Lots of challenges right now! Dealer.com's been acquired 2x since 2013. The founders of the company left and it’s now owned by the huge Atlanta based corporation Cox. But they clearly don’t understand or value the brand they bought.

Turnover in customer service is crazy right now (also true with other departments). Pay is way below market value. Few ways to move up in your career. Some internal platforms are broken and there's no one to fix them. It's hard to find someone to answer a question. It's hard to do everyday work.

In my department - we’re understaffed, can’t keep interns, have no budget. When I hear from them, my managers seem overworked and powerless. There is basically no plan. NOT fun times.

    Advice to Management

Teach your people managers how to manage people. Invest in retaining and developing your talent. Invest in DDC.

    I worked at Dealer.com full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

i worked at the Dallas office for a few months. I really liked the high energy and technology driven culture of the company. Despite being a small company they do take their engineering very seriously. The teams are methodical and rigorous about their work. Technically I was very satisfied with the company. if you live in Vermont then this is a very good company to work for.

    Cons

    1. As soon as I joined, the Dallas office was split into two and half the workforce was sent to another company called Dealer Socket.

    2. There were major layoffs and 60 people were asked to leave on the same day (in fact they were told about the decision and immediately asked to walk out).

    3. Most engineering teams in Dallas just work as contractors for the teams in Vermont. They don't own engineering roadmap, they just work as a out sourcing center.

    4. The parent company COX has no serious growth plans for Dallas. They just talk, but on ground 0, nothing happens. Most teams are facing attrition and the company does not fill those positions.

Some other things to note are

    1. The insurance provided by the company is really expensive. My copay went through the roof and doctors and pharmacists complained about the expensive and poor coverage by the insurance.

    Advice to Management

Have a grown plan for entire company and stop being territorial

I have been working at Dealer.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Burlington VT is a great place to work/live, nice gym on site, can move fairly quickly within company but will still be hamstrung by middle management.

    Cons

DDC has undergone two acquisitions, and it shows. We've lost almost all of the founders (they made it, can't blame them) and are left with a skeleton crew that many suspect to only be involved still as part of the acquisition contract. The workplace is more apt for someone who wants to play it safe and work in a slow-moving environment than someone seeking future growth and an innovative workplace. The impact of the acquisitions may be lost on newer hires but is apparent to anyone who's been there for a couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Protect the DDC culture as best you can.
