I worked at Dealertrack full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very smart and dedicated staff at all levels of the organization who work hard to grow the organization organically year after year. Beautiful building, location and amenities in Dallas, although rent likely unnecessarily high. (Money that could go back to employees or share holders.

    Cons

Recent corporate acquisition by Cox Automotive resulted in sunset of products and many good people that supported them in favor of Cox products and personnel. In addition, formal oboarding and training has slowly improved over time; however, new employees still "drinking from fire hose" in many cases.

    Advice to Management

For Cox Automotive to work hard to find new homes for employees (and where they live) when divisions or positions are sunset.

Hours weren't guaranteed, 3rd shift (1a-until), not the best company morale, "kids" working in an "adult" environment.

I worked at Dealertrack full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people
    Several great managers
People are very open to innovation in general
Some extremely smart people who are a blast to work with

    Cons

Leadership pulls people every direction at once with no help to prioritize
Horrible pay - it's like pulling teeth to get a raise even if managers agree you should get one
    Constant chaos and emergency mode
Some people required to stay up until 2 AM every week or two for releases, with no clear rules about catching up on sleep. They didn't tell me this in my interview.
Horrible on the support side. Micromanaging and treating you like a cog is the norm. I've seen great support teams totally killed by monitoring and metrics about case closure.

    Advice to Management

Relax. Figure out what you want to be in the market, and do that really well. Fix issues, and lighten up on stupid process and reporting that kill morale. Treat people like you want them to stay. Executive leadership and CEO always seemed awesome, but the people beneath them were extremely confusing to follow.
