    Pros

Employee Discount. Not much more than that...employee discount was really the only pro to working in this type of retail.

    Cons

Barely pay over minimum wage for management responsibility. 12-14 hours days often with no overtime pay and you are expected to be on-call for anything. If a regional or district manager was scheduled to visit your store or would show up unannounced, management was required to work around their schedule even if that included coming in on your day off or if you already had family plans during off-time. Full-time salaried and experienced employees can earn more at an hourly retail job elsewhere (department stores or larger specialty retail) without the demanding management responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Recognize how important your management is to the company's bottom line. If you cannot compensate your management well for the tiresome hours and dedication they put into running the store and staff, you cannot expect loyal employees.

I worked at Deb Shops (More than 5 years)

    Pros

free samples & lunch, thats it...there was nothing else good about working for this company

    Cons

The management was horrible. The CMO was so mean and unprofessional and her buyers were just as bad as she was. They treated everyone horribly and didn't care. They expect you to work 14 hr days while they walked out the door at 5 on the dot.

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like you are better then your lowly assistants. We are the ones that did all the work while you got all the benefits. You would be lost without us because most of you had no idea how to even enter an order.

I worked at Deb Shops part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I did like the discount and counting jeans part of the job. I liked cashiering and watching the fitting room.

    Cons

I didn't like the new management team and how unorganized they were. They chased away employees and when it was all said and done, they store closed too.

    Advice to Management

If you knew better you could have succeeded and did better! Hire professional people and don't pin your managers against each other.

I worked at Deb Shops part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fairly flexible scheduling IF you're part time, Full time no luck

    Cons

Fast promotion only because they want to easily fill spots,no training guide given, its upon the mangers to make their own. Incredibly high turnover rating among upper management in store and regional managers.

    Advice to Management

Smarter decision making and more organization

    Pros

The discount was nice and I enjoyed the visual merchandising aspect.

    Cons

Poor compensation for all that you were required to do. The merchandise styles were generally awful....whoever the company buyer is needs replaced. Their mannequin outfit suggestions were terrible as well. They failed to train employees properly and didn't bother making any improvements to the stores. Overall it was not a good place to work. And half of their "rules" didn't make sense. We sell ripped/destroyed denim but we can't wear it as an associate? Yeah, that makes sense.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees better, have better incentives if you expect us to do 5 jobs in 1. More realistic expectations.

    Pros

My team-Our team! Paychecks & discount!

    Cons

    -Corporation is discriminatory
-District managers are racist. Bluntly say discriminatory remarks in front of you
    -Poor corporation
-Poor communication from upper level to lower level
-Lack of care for their people
    -Over worked and unorganized
    -Poor management
    -No company values

    Advice to Management

Look elsewhere.I've only been a manager here for a short period of time and company failed to alert entire on boarding management team that they are in distress and going out of business. I was hired after a complete elimination of all management and associates and a very high shrink result. Store was a disaster. We were used beyond all measures to get the store back up and running because they had no one. The few members of management that I met are on drugs. Reports have been made by customers and corporation failed to pursue. Leadership is weak. Merchandise is low quality.
