I worked at Deb Shops full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Love the clothes. Easy to move up.

    Cons

Upper management doesn't listen. I worked there for years and worked hard. Upper management doesn't listen and overwork their staff with no assistance.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. When they cry for help don't just bail on them and let them sink.

I worked at Deb Shops full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small store and cheap clothes. Lots of freedom to hang yourself. Not much to say good. Biggest mistake leaving a good company for this. I applied for assistant but they couldn't find a store manager so they gave me that position n had my assistant Manger train me!

    Cons

Terrible senior management. No order and treats good employees bad. Doesn't care about personal life. Hard to find good workers. High turnover and loss.

    Advice to Management

Cross your ts and dot your is! Upper management is terrible and will fire you over the smallest mistake like not calling enough customers that did a return....

    Pros

Employee Discount. Not much more than that...employee discount was really the only pro to working in this type of retail.

    Cons

Barely pay over minimum wage for management responsibility. 12-14 hours days often with no overtime pay and you are expected to be on-call for anything. If a regional or district manager was scheduled to visit your store or would show up unannounced, management was required to work around their schedule even if that included coming in on your day off or if you already had family plans during off-time. Full-time salaried and experienced employees can earn more at an hourly retail job elsewhere (department stores or larger specialty retail) without the demanding management responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Recognize how important your management is to the company's bottom line. If you cannot compensate your management well for the tiresome hours and dedication they put into running the store and staff, you cannot expect loyal employees.

I worked at Deb Shops (Less than a year)

    Pros

Your coworkers can be great and if a manager likes you you were more likely to get the shifts you wanted.

    Cons

No rewards for excellent performance. Only criticism. A manager would leave passive aggressive notes threatening employees job security. This happened on a few occassions. If one person wasn't doing well it was sometimes taken out on all of us. No security cams or sensors on clothing at our location. If a customer complained you were instantly assumed as guilty (goes back to the no security cams).

    Advice to Management

Well, they're going out of business so I guess it's a bit late for advice.
