    Pros

Cheap clothes and easy to upsell.

    Cons

Horrible upper management with no direction

    Pros

The team, I had a great D.M. and was trained to be ready to move up. PTO is very generous, scheduling is pretty flexible.

    Cons

The amount of tasking can get overwhelming, you work with only one coverage and can have Mark downs then they will throw a sale change and expect it all to be done within a short amount of time while taking care of customers.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter, they are closing all stores.

    Pros

Great team, very generous on number of PTO days. Helping girls find their prom and homecoming dresses is fun.

    Cons

The work load is off balance and not good planning. Having to work alone and attend to the customers and then have to change sales on a dime was frustrating.

    Advice to Management

No need, company is closing down.

I worked at Deb Shops part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

40% discount. Interview process was easy. Girls were nice. Good place if you like fashion. They have different styles for different people's personalities.

    Cons

I never worked more than 12 hours a week, 4 hour shifts. I was mostly on-call and I had to call every time an hour before hand. If the on-call was at 2, I had to call at 1. The one time, my on-call was as 5, so I called at 4. They said they didn't need me. At 5:07 the Manager calls back and asks me if I can get there at 5:30. I live a half hour away. And I didn't have a car so I had to rely on people for rides, I told her I couldn't come in by 5:30. I got written up for that.
I worked there for a little over 3 months and some weeks I wouldn't work at all, and other weeks I'd be only on-call.
Apparently when you're on-call you can't do anything the entire time because they may need you to come in at any given moment.
The one Manager was a little judgemental. I wore a chain-necklace and she asked me why I wore it and I told her why, and she said "Oh I was just wondering because I thought only men wear it and my boyfriend has a similar one."

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter, they're going out of business.

I worked at Deb Shops part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fairly flexible scheduling IF you're part time, Full time no luck

    Cons

Fast promotion only because they want to easily fill spots,no training guide given, its upon the mangers to make their own. Incredibly high turnover rating among upper management in store and regional managers.

    Advice to Management

Smarter decision making and more organization

    Pros

Great opportunity for development and advancement. Nice 40% discount. DM and RM were open and honest really great to work with.

    Cons

liquidation; spending on unnecessary things rather than investing in the business

    Advice to Management

Home office management and those in charge of spending should have been smarter about what to spend money on. We didn't need so many people at home office and then no hours in the store.

I have been working at Deb Shops full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of Training, great people, learn many different technologies.

    Cons

Pay rate, old hardware and software which causes many issues.

    Advice to Management

    New registers, Windows 7

    Pros

The discount was nice and I enjoyed the visual merchandising aspect.

    Cons

Poor compensation for all that you were required to do. The merchandise styles were generally awful....whoever the company buyer is needs replaced. Their mannequin outfit suggestions were terrible as well. They failed to train employees properly and didn't bother making any improvements to the stores. Overall it was not a good place to work. And half of their "rules" didn't make sense. We sell ripped/destroyed denim but we can't wear it as an associate? Yeah, that makes sense.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees better, have better incentives if you expect us to do 5 jobs in 1. More realistic expectations.

    Pros

Very easy going job if you stay on task & do what you're supposed to. I loved working as an assistant there. Wish I didn't have to leave.

    Cons

It is very hard to move up in the company so when you do get the opportunity, take it!!! The only reason I got offered a management position is because they didn't want to hire outside of the company. They are also very STINGY with hours. As a part time assistant I'd only get 16-25 hours. And when I was first offered the job they told me an hourly rate that we agreed on, after that it was lowered .50 because of a reason that was never mentioned to me.

    Pros

My team-Our team! Paychecks & discount!

    Cons

    -Corporation is discriminatory
-District managers are racist. Bluntly say discriminatory remarks in front of you
    -Poor corporation
-Poor communication from upper level to lower level
-Lack of care for their people
    -Over worked and unorganized
    -Poor management
    -No company values

    Advice to Management

Look elsewhere.I've only been a manager here for a short period of time and company failed to alert entire on boarding management team that they are in distress and going out of business. I was hired after a complete elimination of all management and associates and a very high shrink result. Store was a disaster. We were used beyond all measures to get the store back up and running because they had no one. The few members of management that I met are on drugs. Reports have been made by customers and corporation failed to pursue. Leadership is weak. Merchandise is low quality.
