I have been working at Debenhams part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Friendly Helpful Staff
    Flexible Working Hours

    Cons

Constant cuts in budget mean that whenever someone leaves they're never replaced. Workload just builds up and there is a significant gap between management and the rest of the staff so errors are then left until the consequences result in avoidable stress.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with staff more, ask for how working conditions could be improved and stop making such huge cuts on staffing.

I have been working at Debenhams full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Great support around the scheme, with managers at high levels very supportive of it
-Great exposure and ability to progress (providing in good role)
-Rotational element allows you to explore different areas of the business on a 6-18 month cycle
-Full financial support for professional qualifications with days off to study provided

    Cons

-Pay is poor to begin with
-Location of office is not that desirable (Taunton-Somerset)
-Lots of movement within teams can mean lots of people inexperienced within their roles

    Advice to Management

-Perhaps more integration between London and Taunton support centre-especially for Junior and Middle management
-More hard skills training available (ie software training/advanced excel)

I worked at Debenhams full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to work anywhere in the UK and possibly abroad.

    Cons

poor salary, as a manager you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 to 12 hours daily with no overtime paid or annual bonus.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff, they have brilliant ideas on how to improve customer service and sales. Don't be so caught up on the promotions and sales as this drives customers away from buying at full price reducing your margin and damaging your brand.
