I have been working at Deckers Brands (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The VP for Integrated Planning is amazing.

    Cons

too many projects with not enough bandwidth to complete it well

    Advice to Management

We need to feed from the bottom, and allow employees to move up instead of continually reaching outside of the organization for another director.

    Pros

Executives have good intentions and are trying to maintain a fun culture while becoming more "corporate". Fun quarterly all hands events. Great new facility.

    Cons

Lots of turnover recently has caused the great culture to be lost a bit. Deckers has a habit of making everything overly complex.

    Advice to Management

Keep things simple. Fight hard to keep/restore the culture that served the company so well.

I have been working at Deckers Brands (More than a year)

    Pros

-Nice people who are care about the brand
    -Beautiful campus. Laid back atmosphere.
    -Work/life balance is great.
    -Great gym!
    -Plenty of opportunity
    -Employee discounts
-Company is finally growing up a little bit
-New CEO finally. The old one added nothing to the business, other than longwinded rants during all-hands.

    Cons

-Pay is average for as much as SB costs to live. Benefits are behind the times.
-Development and growth opportunities appear to be pretty limited. Hard to promote and get promoted, unless you're in the "old deckers crew"
-Great people but many are just happy to have a decent job in a beautiful place.

    Advice to Management

-This ever thickening Top Layer is concerning. CEO, COO, CHRO, 3 presidents, more SVPs/VPs.... yikes. You're spending top dollar to bring in top level talent but are very quick to plead poverty with 'budget issues' for everything else.
-Get rid of ineffective leaders. You know who they are. We know who they are.
-Define your strategy. Define what the brands are about and where their place in the market is.
-Getting to live in SB is not part of the pay package. Reward the people...not just upper management.
    - Those of us that are talented and don't revere SB, aren't afraid to leave. Address the issues that are causing key talent to leave.

I worked at Deckers Brands (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Amazing people
    -Beautiful Campus and amenities
    -Great Benefits
    -Awesome discount on products

    Cons

-No room for growth, development plans, training or help getting to the next level
-Work life balance is very hard in a lot of departments
-Employees are overworked and are being asked to take on even more
-Very top heavy company with a ton of VP's and Directors but not enough people to actually do the work. If you are coming in at that level be prepared to take on a lot more busy work than you'd expect from any other company of this level.
-Communication is very bad between departments and especially with upper mgt. No clear direction from Execs

    Advice to Management

-Start being more strategic with your decisions. Knee jerk reactions are only making the employees doubt the direction of the company.
-Invest in your employees, and don't forget the company culture.
-Communicate better, employees feel left in the dark

I have been working at Deckers Brands full-time

    Pros

Great healthcare benefits, beautiful location, and wonderful coworkers.

    Cons

Hard to find a good manager at Deckers -- I have had five in the three years that I've been here. A lot of inefficiencies and waste in the business from management making "shoot from the hip" decisions that can be very frustrating.

Also, the high cost of living in Santa Barbara makes it almost impossible for anyone to build a career and life here.

    Advice to Management

Hire the right people and train your managers.

    Pros

The company offers very nice benefits and there are many great people working there. Nice life / work balance. Pleasant company HQ, green buildings.

    Cons

The company seems very unstable right now. Many changes in my short time there. They are making changes in their brands and there have been layoffs. I was asked to relocate after only 7 months of employment.

    Pros

It is a very laid back place to work. They offer a great employee discount! The people are very friendly from the janitor to the CEO.

    Cons

It wasn't fun having to start out as a temp employee, and they are not the quickest to hire on.

    Advice to Management

End the hiring freeze, your staff will work harder and better as a full time employee of your company.
