    Pros

The culture of the engineering organization is very collegial and collaborative. Plenty of chances to learn from others and share knowledge. Hardly any big egos, and a healthy, realistic attitude about productivity.

    Cons

Senior management had a history of loss of focus on the core business and seemed unable to learn from its distractions. A recent shake-up at the top and big restructuring were intended to address these bad habits. Time will tell.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the core business and supporting proven products & strategies.

I worked at Deem full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

While there is no really good way to release 100+ people, the new President/COO and the new head of HR were very open and transparent about the process. The reduction in force (RIF) was congruent with the goals to save the company, preserve investment, and focus on becoming profitable.

    Cons

It’s a new chapter. What’s past is past. I liked the company, the products, and people. The new, leaner organization with laser-sharp focus sounds like winner. Good for them!

    Advice to Management

    Keep on, keeping on :)

I worked at Deem (More than a year)

    Pros

Great vision of what could be possible. Concept of SAAS including travel, expense, buying service, ground has legs. The Concur valuation is encouraging and Deem could eventually have a similar monetization event.

    Cons

The company has difficulty in executing. There have been numerous changes in direction without follow through. Too many changes without executing on stated strategies.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the 3 most important strategies and execute on the plans without changing direction as often as you have in the past.

I worked at Deem full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They pay well for their positions being a San Francisco based company. They brought in

    Cons

It's a toxic environment. Only the opinions of those who have seniority matter. No one is willing to share their knowledge or mentor but you have to self-teach so it's very difficult to be successful when you are new. Because of this, there has been tremendous turnover. They just cut a huge chunk of the workforce, in other industries that generally means they aren't afraid to cut more as necessary for survival so it could be you.

    Advice to Management

It's hard to invoke change when you keep all the old dinosaurs who have been resistant to change from the beginning.

    Pros

As others have said, energetic work environment, incredible talent, great parties & perks

    Cons

CEO. CEO. CEO. I just read that he is leaving and so happy for the remaining employees. It was a long time coming and one of the main reasons I was grateful to leave.

    Advice to Management

Use this opportunity with new CEO to get effective, loyal execs who are free to share ideas and shape the company without the Almighty's approval & intimidation. Take advantage of the talent you have and listen to them as other's have stated.
