    Pros

The culture of the engineering organization is very collegial and collaborative. Plenty of chances to learn from others and share knowledge. Hardly any big egos, and a healthy, realistic attitude about productivity.

    Cons

Senior management had a history of loss of focus on the core business and seemed unable to learn from its distractions. A recent shake-up at the top and big restructuring were intended to address these bad habits. Time will tell.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the core business and supporting proven products & strategies.

I have been working at Deem (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people work here and have for years. Nice location in SF.

    Cons

I've been around through the ups and the downs - for years. This leadership team doesn't know what they don't know. This place still has the same problems it did two years ago but disguised in different clothes. This leadership team, while approachable is the blind leading the blind. The "President" is really the CEO and the CEO (Krish) is really a board member. No one understands the stack and there is changing visions all the time. Rizzo doesn't know

    Advice to Management

Get someone in a leadership position who actually knows what he or she is doing. Also, the logo is horrible.

I worked at Deem full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

While there is no really good way to release 100+ people, the new President/COO and the new head of HR were very open and transparent about the process. The reduction in force (RIF) was congruent with the goals to save the company, preserve investment, and focus on becoming profitable.

    Cons

It’s a new chapter. What’s past is past. I liked the company, the products, and people. The new, leaner organization with laser-sharp focus sounds like winner. Good for them!

    Advice to Management

    Keep on, keeping on :)

I worked at Deem (More than a year)

    Pros

Great vision of what could be possible. Concept of SAAS including travel, expense, buying service, ground has legs. The Concur valuation is encouraging and Deem could eventually have a similar monetization event.

    Cons

The company has difficulty in executing. There have been numerous changes in direction without follow through. Too many changes without executing on stated strategies.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the 3 most important strategies and execute on the plans without changing direction as often as you have in the past.

I worked at Deem full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy and potential to work from home. Talented colleagues.

    Cons

Patrick Grady through and through. Everything at Deem was built in the "What Would Patrick Do/Want" spirit, rather than cultivating new ideas or creative freedom. Also, several hundred employees to build 9-10 best in class products to compete with Concur and Ariba (who have thousands devoted to 2-3 categories) was downright foolish.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people. Hundreds of great minds are now at different companies driving productive change and are much happier. They could have been (and were) yours.
