I worked at Defence Science & Technology Agency full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Good work life balance. Two hour extended lunch time seems very acceptable here. Staff often go to Vivo or Ikea for lunch for two long hours. Very good pay with not much work and with many bonuses. Good benefits like flexible benefits can claim travel, dental, etc.

    Cons

Lots of red tape. And restrictive policy like cannot bring ipad, laptop or thumb drive into office.

    Advice to Management

    Have less red tape.

Former Employee - Corporate Communications Executive in Singapore

I worked at Defence Science & Technology Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pros was that it is a government agency and there were the usual benefits, annual bonus was generous though I left before that.

    Cons

The hierarchy system was terribly rigid and you couldn't jump levels to speak to a boss various levels above you. The work mainly revolved around military technology and weaponry, so they expect you to have a good amount of knowledge regarding military before entering the company.

I worked at Defence Science & Technology Agency full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Benefits and pay is above market rates for similar procurement jobs. Young working adults mostly less than 40 years old and generally friendly. Pro family and provide childcare leave, parent leave and non certified mc. Some boss allow birthday leave also.

    Cons

Overloading of workload for each executive. Red tape everywhere, and processes are very tedious and slow. New systems further add on to Confusion and delays. Urgent requirements everyday, some with lead time less than 5 days and if can't meet the deadline you will need to answer for it.

    Advice to Management

Even with the new systems, there are still many processes and approvals required. Management should look at removing rules and employ more new procurement executives. If not resignation rate will increase as expected.

I have been working at Defence Science & Technology Agency full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

People are kind and nurturing. There is a gym at 12th floor, nice canteen and swimming pool is 5 minute walk away. Enriching place to learn and grow. Forgiving towards mistakes

    Cons

Red tapes. Increasing demand in workload and skill sets. Weak kpi measurement

    Advice to Management

Categorise which projects are first of its kind or complex or team lacks competencies so that timeline and outcome can be reviewed more vigirously

I worked at Defence Science & Technology Agency full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Pay. Very sheltered environment (unlike other agencies facing the public, DSTA is highly secluded from scrutiny. MINDEF gets all the scrutiny instead)

    Cons

DSTA is a poor place to develop technically because the emphasis is on management development. The main work they do is project management. Sure they prize technical skills but thats because the bulk of them realise they can't do anything with just management alone. Young engineers should consider if they want to stunt their development growth in such an organization because there will not be alot of experienced folks...

    Advice to Management

Guaranteed work from MINDEF have left the people complacent and slow to react to changes.
