I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The mission. We support the warfighter. The products and work is interesting.

    Cons

It's the government so it's very slow to change. Very bureaucratic. Work can be very challenging or very boring. Leadership is not helpful because they can't change anything.

    Pros

It's a job and pays the bills.

    Cons

Micromanage, limited opportunities for advancement, stressful for no reason and mundane.
In order to telework you must get your warrant, provide your own laptop and work there for a year.

I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance, liberal leave, manageable workload, no stress, relaxed environment, management is friendly

    Cons

Too many people for the amount of work, favoritism, promotions are sometimes secret, limited opportunities to advance depending on location, must be mobile if you want to move up quickly, no leadership development opportunities besides NextGen program which is a joke

    Advice to Management

Be honest when hiring associates about promotion opportunities, incorporate leadership development groups/clubs not just NextGen program that is limited

I have been working at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexi-Max hours allow you to work 4 10hr shifts and be off every Fridays. Federal benefits are cool and the stress level is generally low

    Cons

It's difficult to get promoted to GS-13 as an Engineer unless you're willing to move anywhere. My team has 8 GS-12 Engineers, but only 1 GS-13 position that will not be available until the current GS-13 moves, which will likely not happen soon

    Pros

Holidays, Flexible Work hours, Decent travel expenses provided, Decent benefits, Employs older persons,

    Cons

Each field office has an in group and an out group. The entire organization is more focused on producing non-controversial glossy reports than in publishing metrics that reveal the government continues to pay more for the weapon systems it purchases.

    Advice to Management

Please stop thinking of your next promotion or your retirement and start thinking about the tax payers, The tax dollars you save will be your own and that of the warfighter whom you allegedly claim to support.

    Pros

Good pay. Follow Federal pay and holidays.

    Cons

Retaliatory management. Cronyism. Engineers are glorified process auditors. HQ doesn't want solutions only METRICS.

    Advice to Management

Go back to letting engineers resolve process issues. QA are your process auditors, engineers are resolvers.

I worked at Defense Contract Management Agency full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary and benefits, vacation and flex hours.

    Cons

Extremely poor senior level leadership and poor management at the Management Office level. DCMA lost their focus on providing contract management of warfighters services and products. In past years could boast respect from the Military Services but no longer the case. Need to de-emphasize internal focus and lessen internal metrics and focus on their mission, the products and services under contract to support the warfighters.

    Advice to Management

The agency and their customers were hopeful a "Three Star" would correct course but not the case. The Director needs to establish a new foundation without influence of the Senior Executives and Management Office leaders.
