I have been working at Defense Finance and Accounting Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance, unbelievable benefits, promotion opportunities if you have education, and telework

    Cons

Work with employees (mainly accounting techs and clerks) that believe they are entitled to things. Example: being asked to come into work for training on a telework day. You would think you had asked them to sacrifise their first born child. Guess they don't realize telework is a privilige and not a right.

Have to hunt around or talk to someone that is in the know to get information on programs that are offered, for example tutition assistance.

    Advice to Management

Occansionally offer sessions that explain to anyone interested in promotions on how to achieve their goals. Ie through education (since that is a requiremeng at higher levels), experience, and skills the organization is looking for.

I worked at Defense Finance and Accounting Service full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Variety of work to utilize public accounting skills. Greatest joy is knowing you are supporting the US men and women in the military through your work efforts. Work hard, do more than whats in the job description and career progression is great. Salary and benefits are excellent.

    Cons

Many of the automated systems are in various stages of modernization and it's sometimes frustrating when they do not process correctly.

    Advice to Management

It's good to stay focused on productivity and efficiency but not at the sacrifice of employees. Too often the balance is too much to production and not enough on employee welfare. Try to achieve a better balance. Happier employees are far more productive.
