I worked at Delaware County Community College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tremendous diversity in the student population - this is a place to stretch your wings as a teacher to try to cast the wide net.

    Cons

Many students work full-time or part-time making their class attendance and assignment completion problematic.

    Advice to Management

Abandon the cold hard line that some administrators preach - these students need more support than is provided. That cold hard line encourages a certain arrogance in the faculty that does not serve students or DCCC very well -

I have been working at Delaware County Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment, well structured, academic spirit, fair and professional treatment

    Cons

Limited opportunities for professional / academic growth and promotions. Management is often rigid, conservative / not flexible enough.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive, think more out-of-the box and act fast and efficiently when needed!

I worked at Delaware County Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The students can be tough but there's also a lot of really great kids.

    Cons

There's a lot of problems with management that trickle down to everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Increase transparency and decrease internal drama and tension.

I worked at Delaware County Community College part-time

    Pros

I loved the people I worked with every day.

    Cons

Implementing systems that staff need to follow that take away from doing current job. That same time spent on improving current position or in training would be more beneficial.

    Advice to Management

Stop following the latest and greatest buzz words. Respect your staff (at all levels) they are your eyes and ears. Remember who your clients are - the students and provide them with excellent service.

I worked at Delaware County Community College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Salary and benefits were competitive.

    Cons

The Dean of Educational Support Services is the least professional person I've ever worked with. She can not communicate her expectations effectively and often resorts to tactics that are associated with bullying in the workplace. Her presence as the leader of the Learning Commons at DCCC has made the working environment extremely unpleasant. I suffered from acute anxiety during my time there because of her hostility.

Even more problematically, the upper administration and HR have been made aware on numerous occasions of how unprofessional she has treated her staff. Sadly, they have done little to support the 7-10 people underneath Tonya Briggs who have since found employment elsewhere, were relocated to other departments, or were fired.

    Advice to Management

The Learning Commons at DCCC will continue to suffer from high personnel turnover until the Dean of Educational Support Services is relieved of her responsibilities there.

I worked at Delaware County Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The college is pretty well organized

    Cons

Admins and full-time faculty do not always make the most intelligent decisions. It's a community college, so students demonstrate a wide-range of abilities and personalities. As an adjunct you are exploited- ie payed far less than full-time faculty, asked to cover other professors classes (at least the STEM Dean Schwartz routinely asks this of adjunct faculty). Unless you are retired or looking to modestly supplement your income, I would stay away from adjuncting at DCCC as DCCC is a career dead-end.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make pay merit based (ie increase adjunct salary, eliminate tenure). Higher fewer "Deans."

Great job, good pay for what I was doing. Friendly people, friendly students.

    Cons

An it of a beauracracy, but other than that I think it has not many cons.
