I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company has best of breed products across the board. Major spending on R&D to continue leadership position. Growth in consolidation when competitors are splitting up / laying off employees.

    Cons

Large company with 140,000 employees can sometimes make you feel like a cog in the machine vs a recognized contributor. But for the most part, no cons.

    Advice to Management

Continue to improve focus on customers first. TCE should be job #1.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are above average, compensation is good. Technology space (CI and HCI) is a developing area and thus the potential to learn about new developments is there. Increased interaction with Vmware and cloud offerings which are exciting. Established leadership in several areas.

    Cons

A lot of legacy EMC management attempting to justify their continued existence by implementing worthless processes. There is no interest in developing the workforce (expense management) and it is up to the employee to see what free coursework is available. Junior managers who micromanage experienced personnel and who think that value is derived from having an overflowing inbox of inconsequential emails.

    Advice to Management

To Dell: watch the fact that the workforce is disengaging and question why. EMC managers are killing any kind of entrepreneurship in the organization. Follow through with what we were told about opportunities, thus far it is only the senior managers who have shuffled around but there is nothing available downstream. Expect more of the first line managers and hire "leaders" not "supervisors" or "yes men." Customers are noticing the difference.

I have been working at Dell as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    flexible work / life balance
    opportunity to learn new tech

    Cons

Quality has been dropped in terms of services or employee grade since merger...had first hand exp and heard from customer on the field

    Advice to Management

Don't inject your Dell managers into EMC ( or it's division) layers...

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Flexibility
not really sure what is left after dell bought us.

    Cons

    - ACR increase after dell purchased us 2.55% (worst its every been when EMC was separate)
    - Company cut long term bonus plan by 50% for all employees
    - Dell only cares about paying his purchase price off
    - after Dell purchase, trying to promote or even take your team to lunch is a Hell NO

    Advice to Management

Paying off the 64B is not always the first priority. The merger has made our jobs hell and we have survived and took care of business, but it seems all Dell cares about is saving the bottom line. EMC was a better place when it was alone.
