I have been working at Dell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This place involves fast work flow and constantly changing atmosphere.
    Pretty good Benefits
    They pay for certifications
    Your co-workers are pretty awesome.
When you have a great manager and support team, your job will get infinitely easier
if you want certifications, Dell will pay for them (job-related certifications of course).
Some teams have brilliant people to work for/with.

    Cons

    It's a call center - Extremely Stressful
    Management is always changes.
Your manager plays a part in how will you will grow as an Agent.
    Too Metrics Focused.
Too many policy changes for the sake of figuring things out.
Very hard to change roles unless you have connections.
To many Internal company politics: it interferes with you just focusing on our job.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be some uniformity on how policies, procedures, and actions are to be taken. During my 2nd year changes happened too much, there was too much inconsistency which then hurt efficiency, and alot of changes that just got in the way who prevented us from doing our jobs (and I have seen this with more adept agents than myself).

Stop focusing so much on numbers; the customers honestly don't care about our "policies" even when we explain why we do what we do. Don't tell us to only focus on taking care of our customers, then shove numbers and metrics in our faces making us fixate on them.

Treat your experienced agents with respect. I am not referring to seasoned agents: i am talking about new hires with IT Industry experience: they are your bread and butter.

Lastly, help your frontline agents with their stress levels. People take off all the time and turnover is so high because the unbearable amount of stress this job carries. Monetary incentives and PBA/Vacation is not enough.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fast Paced, Industry Leader, Great Benefits, Better than average compensation

    Cons

The environment is cutthroat and toxic at times, and corporate culture has suffered significantly during the last five years. Focus on OPEX has led to workforce reductions and failure to invest in people, training, and facilities. Many of the good people have left for new opportunities and better work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Refocus on your most valuable assets, people. At one time, I would have followed leadership over the hill not knowing or caring what dangers lurked on the other side. Today, I don't trust leadership to take care of people and believe people at the company only follow as a result of fear, intimidation, and perceived job security.
