I have been working at Dell full-time

    Pros

Strong position as an infrastructure solutions provider
Career growth - Opportunities across every possible functional area and geography
    Very open to remote workers

    Cons

Very large company, lots of management layers. Decision process can be slow
Infrastructure is becoming commoditized (PCs, Servers, Storage). Dell positioning itself as an enabler and arms-supplier for public and private clouds.
Merger with EMC is still playing out - creates some uncertainty about roles/responsibilities and job security

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

large company plenty of room to grow and move to other positions. they have an onsite Gym. for the most part the culture is good with friendly people

    Cons

depending on where you are in the org you can feel like your on an island though honestly Dell does seem to be trying to break some of those things down that stemmed from the EMC culture. Engineering is placed on a pedestal and doesn't even own tickets that are in engineering state while not uncommon in other jobs its a bad practice and hurts time to resolution. if it is a bug they should own that. they put out process changes that have to be acknowledged by you when they want to hold you accountable for something but are not consistent in sending these for all major changes.

    Advice to Management

I can meet any metric. that does not mean I am doing my job well.

I have been working at Dell as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Dell has an awesome work/life balance and there really is a lot of flexibility for employees to move to different jobs across the company.

    Cons

There are inconsistent hiring practices across orgs, and there was a lack of transparency about what those processes look like. There also can be a lot of politics in particular areas of the org.

    Advice to Management

Clarify expectations and processes. No one can read minds.

I have been working at Dell as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A LOT of intern opportunities such as networking events, Executive Speaker Series (even with Michael Dell!), flexible work environment, etc.

The other interns are awesome! There are a lot of opportunities to make friends and have fun with the other interns. Also-- the full time employees are always happy to help with intern tasks.

Austin is a super fun city!!

    Cons

Big company- can be difficult to navigate at first.

    Pros

Good work/life balance, decent pay, all my bosses have been excellent

    Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy and office politics to play, image is important and can damage your ability to get raises/promotions. Benefits seem to get worse every year.
