I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Every leader I have had has been extremely focused on helping me meet my career goals and develop professionally. They are very flexible with working hours and family obligations.

    Cons

HSAs just shift costs from employer to employee and try to disguise them. This is my only complaint and will cause me to look elsewhere when we eventually eliminate the PPO altogether.

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the HSAs - you're just shifting costs from Dell to the employees, and it annoys me when it's marketed as this great thing for me. I'm not dumb!

I have been working at Dell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at Dell is always exciting- there is never a dull moment at the office. The culture promotes a flexible schedule as long as you get your work done. A lot of people work from home at least some part of the week. They really care about their employees and listen to their feedback. The job is constantly evolving and challenging.

    Cons

Still a cube farm and fairly outdated offices for a tech company but they are not investing a lot in offices because of their strong approach on working from home. Like any other corporate company, there is a lot of politics.

    Advice to Management

    Continue listening to your employees!

    Pros

Good benefits flexible scheduling really good environment with friendly smart people you will genuinely like good opportunities if you are patient and wait for them

    Cons

Upper management just doesn't get it. Lot of folks suffering due to short sightedness from the top. Claiming something is world class and not investing in it doesn't make it world class

    Advice to Management

Just demanding problems be fixed without proper action and investing in people won't fix problems

Since the EMC Dell merger there are some bumps in the road and questions on new benefits, but so far nothing major.

    Advice to Management

Keep the current benefits packages, don't go to a one payer system.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance is decent, schedules are somewhat flexible, you can work from home though it's a 60ish hour per week type of company. Great health insurance, 401k matching.

    Cons

Micromanagement is awful. Not much support from management, tons of corporate red tape and outdated processes. Unrealistic expectations from upper management. Long hours.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, don't just read out of an outdated management handbook without knowing what your employees actually do day-to-day.
