I have been working at Dell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Excellent name at the top of your resume
-Bunch of free stuff to distract you

    Cons

    -Complex compensation structure
    -Unrealistic KPIs
    -Insane turnover

    Advice to Management

-I shouldn't need a Ph.D. in Mathematics to figure out how I get paid
-Hop into an ISAM position for 6 months and hold yourself to the same standards
-Look in the mirror as you lose employees left and right.
-TAKE CARE OF YOUR PEOPLE. YOU JUST SPENT 60 BILLION DOLLARS, REMEMBER HOW YOU GOT THERE.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They bought EMC which may finally give them a world class sales force.

    Cons

Sales territories are a revolving door, changing so often its not uncommon for customers to laugh when you introduce yourself as they ask how long you will be their point of contact. Most AE's are commodity sales people they don't know how or care to sell anything but point products such as PC's and Servers. The few good AE's will leave soon for companies that are true solutions sales firms. Would not recommend Dell to anyone who is used to real teamwork,or being treated other than as a number and barnyard animal to the syncopates that worship the cult of MD.

    Advice to Management

Stop patting yourselves on the back . Most of you have not been anywhere but Dell and doing the same bad practices over and over expecting different results is ..... well we all know that song. Employees should be treated fairly and with ethics no the backroom lies and constant conniving of the accountants to find ways to cut pay.

I worked at Dell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Huge customer base. Desire to succeed. Willing to do what it takes to win.

    Cons

While the culture was mostly toxic, I was in Enterprise Sales, so I was less effected. Until EMC decided months a huge deal, to pay my commissions at 50% months after they accepted the $20M+ PO. This was AFTER sign off from the CEO on the deal. A company willing to do anything to win, will also screw its employees.

    Advice to Management

Retire. Also, take better care of your people.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great coworker to work with.

    Cons

No direction from management, no performance raises, below avarage pay, and product training needs to be overhauled.

    Advice to Management

Recognize high performers, increase benefits, help employees to achieve their career goals, ask for input from employees, be more focused on the needs of the customer not the bottom line. What makes a company successful is happy employees and happy customers.

I have been working at Dell (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Ability to work remotely which provides schedule flexibility. Building an internal network is key to success at Dell. If you have good managers this process is easy, if not, well it can be the difference between success and failure.

    Cons

Compensation is mediocre and benefits are lacking. Do more with less is the mantra so hours are very long and don't expect anyone to ever say Thank You.. Career paths are not clear and if you ever want a promotion prepare to wait many many years and put up with an abundance of political BS.
