I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Awesome colleagues who are dedicated to their craft
    - Interesting projects at top clients
    - Great benefits
    - Good brand to be associated with from a career perspective

    Cons

    - Very political, promotions and raises are based on favoritism. "Metrics" institutionalize favoritism and discourages team collaboration or long term planning
    - Up and out culture promotes glory seeking individuals at the expense of staff that do the heavy lifting.
    - Lots of political intrigue and passive aggressive infighting among junior Partners/Principals/Directors

    Advice to Management

    - For all the talk about "Innovation" and 2020 strategy, you need to give your staff the autonomy to succeed.
    - Take care of the silent majority of the staff that do most of the heavy lifting as those are the folks that your business is based upon.
    - Need better ways to track performance. For all this talk of fancy new ways of measuring performance, it doesn't solve the underlying issues of rewarding on merit but rather puts a shiny veneer on what's in place already.

    Pros

Deloitte is a growing consulting firm that offers professionals a vast array of career opportunities across its multiple service offerings.

    Cons

Like any consulting firm, internal networking is an important component of navigating your career and it should be made a top priority - along with work performance.

I worked at Deloitte as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

No pros. Very rude people, management has lots to learn on how to be respectful in the workplace. Would never work there again. Would not recommend anyone to work there - unless you don't like them.

    Cons

If you don't like drinking, don't work there. They will say that you don't fit in and blame it on you. Incompetent management. If you are going through a rough patch in your personal life - someone sick for instance, then they pick on you and get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

Karma is all I can say......

I worked at Deloitte as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can't find anything that was good about the place. Hierarchical for sure. If you are immature, then this is the place to be! I would not deal with this company for anything! I wouldn't trust them.

    Cons

Lots of downside to working there. Right from the top down, the management is incompetent. Two faced people work there, they are friendly to your face and then moments later, talking crap behind your back. A revolving door, people start work there and then leave just as quickly if they don't "fit in" with the drinking and partying.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up! Stop being arrogant!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

+Great colleagues on a peer level
+Good place to start a career and get qualified before moving into industry
+Access to regular training paid for by the company
    +The occasional great partner

    Cons

-Management are generally cold and uncaring
-Management have a lack of appreciation for the work performed
-Performance management system arbitrary and unfair
-Corporate culture does not promote really listening to those below, you are expected to shut up and get on with it
-Lack of compensated overtime destroys motivation to work long hours
-Salaries and benefits below industry standards, no bonus below assistant manager level

    Advice to Management

There are many highly competent managers in Deloitte, but their people management and soft skills are in serious need of work, and many, while subject matter experts in their field, are simply not natural leaders. There is a huge lack of connection and charisma from management towards junior staff, and this results in a lot of disgruntled people that discuss it freely among themselves but the grievances never get raised to management, and when they do people apear to listen but in the end things do not change. In addition, there have been instances where some sub-departments have lost a lot of junior staff due to brash and insensitive senior management who really don't know where to draw the line in how they treat people and who simply do not seem to notice when their staff get upset. This is a critical management failing.

In addition, projects (generally repeat business) are often poorly and lazily organised at the last minute, and people are often mis-sold on CV's as proficient or experts in things they basically have no clue about, and then relied upon to figure things out as best they can while attempting to give the client no indication of this while on-site. In addition, it is common practise for some managers to barely look at some of the ongoing projects they manage and yet charge hours to the client far in excess of what they actually used in order to make sure the budget is used and does not get reduced the next year.

Lastly and importantly, the performance management system is arbitrary in the way it is judged and can be adversely affected by unfair feedback from managers who will try and discreetly blame you for issues on the project that are not necessarily your fault. If you do not make an effort to constantly be on the good side of management, even if your work is of a good level, it can affect your ratings simply by a few well-placed words from those involved in the performance meetings.

These are things that need to be changed but it is highly unlikely will be.
