I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a company with excellent benefits that takes care of its people. This includes excellent benefits and whatever training is necessary. 3 months into the current year and I have already been in 3 weeks of training where the company is paying for certifications in the cloud. And more training is expected. I also work with some of the best and brightest in the industry. They have generous PTO and are known for throwing in all the time after Christmas as free days off which they did last year and this year.

    Cons

Every place has its cons. They don't call it work for nothing. It really kind of depends on your boss and how things are ran, but there were some times when longer hours were required, but excluding recent training that was more of a boot camp training style, the last time I had to do extra overtime was maybe 5 years ago. Again, different group and situation.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Salary, latest technology, innovative, peers are the best I have worked with. More company wide Holidays so that everyone can have a real break from work.

    Cons

Stuffy, bureaucratic, process intense, Work Life balance difficult at times. One PPMD with a problem is more important than 1000 non PPDM with another problem. Better to be seen working on a problem with no results than to sit down and have an open conversation on a solution. Buying of software too many times not based on the best Application but on which app can generate more money to Deloitte Consulting. Better to be extraverted and loud than introverted and a producer.

    Advice to Management

Deloitte has a good culture of training it's employees. DU is a great facility where you can brush up on many managerial skills. Your co-workers are the best and really are top notch. However, You can bust your butt and do good work in your primary duties and never be promoted unless you take on a second job at Deloitte doing extra credit work. To advance at Deloitte, you must sacrifice your family, work on your PTO, answer email on the weekend and at nights, be at one meeting online and answering email in the background. You must over extended yourself. That is the Deloitte way. The goal is to see how much you can give of yourself to Deloitte before you crack and have to leave. Some never do while others leave after a few years. Now you don' have to do these things I mentioned but you won' t progress unless you do. Some will take these comments negative and some will not. It just what you want out of life. But i loved my time there. However, at Deloitte you do own your career. If you not self motivated and highly adapt a change you will not make it.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are good to their people in that they will let you keep your amex points, extend their tax expertise to you, make all discounts available for your leisure travel needs, even give you 500 bucks as a thanks for your hard work

    Cons

Projects are calamitous and unnecessarily time-consuming, all brought on by an ever-growing offshore component. These teams are generally incompetent, highly political and are unwilling to invest in understanding best practices.
Naturally, project execution is a complete mess of wasted time at the hands of beginner level mistakes. I was blown away at the extreme low level of expertise and partners willing to trumpet projects built on duct tape and bubble gum.

Internal and external marketing is aggressive to the point of being ethically questionable. Deloitte's most prized asset is its image and it will go to great lengths to protect it.

Employer turnover is dramatic at an average of 18 months, something most companies would be ashamed of. Interestingly enough, this allows Deloitte to seed political relationships by adding everyone to its alumni network and encouraging people to work at clients. While this is strategically crafty and is happy to stand on the perception of long hours = productivity, it is dishonest and allows Deloitte to side-step generally poor work.

For me personally, it is all too dishonest, especially so in the offshoring crowd. I believe this company abuses the H1B visa program to drive down its costs instead of filling gaps in expertise as truly intended. Money is more important than damage to society.

    Advice to Management

Look much more critically at true expertise and offshoring work. Remember: haste makes waste. Revamp your use of the H1B visa program. This is not for driving down costs. Push offshoring crowds to look locally first before they bring people over.

    Cons

Provide true work-life balance; rebrand some service lines to broaden the scope of capabilities practitioners can deliver to clients (leave politics aside and focus on what clients are looking for)

I have been working at Deloitte as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked with Deloitte STAC, this is probably the worse organization of Deloitte.

    Cons

This is a very disorganized group, to give you an example - We were in a big conference room in the Chicago office and one of the Client Partner who works out of DC office come to the room and started saying bad words to a Sr. Manager for no reason in front of everyone....bad ...very bad...working in this group of Deloitte is not worth it at all.

    Advice to Management

Very Poor leadership, lots of politics.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Probably a good place to start your career... then its easier to navigate through the company.

    Cons

Very cut-throat leadership. People are used and tossed very easily. Not a good work/life balance. Emphasis is on getting billable hours in as opposed to gaining valuable skills and focus on customer quality. Technical skills are not valued. So perhaps a great company for people who are interested in business development and marketing. Stay clear if you have technical skills.

    Advice to Management

They need to figure out whether they want consultants focused on selling or technical people who actually have skills.
