I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I found the pay to be very competitive, and you're always learning new things on various projects. Sometimes you even get to go to cool places.

    Cons

There is little to no work/life balance. It's definitely a culture that rewards those who kiss up to upper management (not my kind of place).

    Advice to Management

Learn to recognize that people sometimes need a break from the constant travel. It doesn't hurt to occasionally staff someone on a project in the city where they live .

    Pros

The BTA role is an excellent opportunity to experience the SDLC in it's entirety early in your career.

    Cons

The Work-Life Balance can be a challenge.

    Pros

    Very capable consultants and managers.
Deloitte University is a great resource and investment in the employees' training.
    Great benefits.
A fantastic name to have on your resume.

    Cons

Way too much politics at the senior manager and above ranks.
Consensus (year end review) meetings are a mysterious "star chamber" experience.
Annual review process is way too subjective.
Way too high utilization targets for consultants.
    Poor work/life balance.
Up or out method used in most career tracks.

    Advice to Management

Open up the year-end review process and make is more transparent and less subjective. You lose some great employees by screwing them around at year-end.

    Pros

    You work hard
    You learn a lot
You have the street cred from the brand name

    Cons

Firm BS - you have to network and network

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opens doors- having the name and experience on your resume makes you extremely marketable for the next job.

    Good training

    Cons

    -Work/ Life Balance: DOESN'T EXIST
-Extremely long hours: 80 hr weeks was a norm. Leads to exhaustion, poor work product, burn-out, unhealthiness, unhappiness, turn-over.
-Busy season myth: Clients with off-year ends leads to rolling busy seasons
    -Terrible staffing
-Favoritism: Peers can have very different experiences depending on who likes them. Quality of work/work ethic often disregarded for who "plays the game better".
-Questionable performance mgmt/HR practices: What is written on paper as performance reviews is not what is "discussed" in the gossip session that ranks you against your peers

    Advice to Management

Change the model- We are all aware that the Big 4 has the high turnover of 3 years. But are you really doing a good thing by burning out your talent and getting stuck with those who somehow managed to out last others...most smart people leave to pursue a better life with higher pay.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great training kick start to a career, awesome team members to work with (case by case basis), lots of PTO and holidays, great health and fitness subsidy

    Cons

Typical Big 4 firm - very hierarchal about their business, while you have lots of PTO you feel guilty using it, extremely long hours during busy season and sometimes even in the off-season - thus running employees into the ground, you feel like a small fish in a very, very big pond

    Advice to Management

Take a more hands on approach with career advancement and be more forthright rather than staying quiet about performance. The amount of effort and hours spent on the job needs to be higher compensated.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart people, great pay, lots of travel, terrific training

    Cons

If you are not client service and you get old and expensive then you are out regardless of your performance. Very few people survive into their 50s as there is pressure to have newer, cheaper, younger replacements. Intense workload, intense personalities, a lot more psychotic bullies than there used to be.

    Advice to Management

Tell people that you don't go to Deloitte for a career; you go there for a job.
