I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learning opportunities are best in class
Engagements are with industry leaders and you will be working with the top management
Most of your colleagues are grade A in management consulting
    Brand value
    Respect from clients

    Cons

    Expectations are super high
    Work-life balance is a challenge
End year appraisals do not quite reflect performance in client engagements
Base salary is not commensurate with the level of effort expected

    Advice to Management

Determine a way to identify people successful in tough engagements vs people with huge utilization rates. There is more to consulting than utilization
Practitioners focused on strategic work should not be pitted against those focused on operational or implementation work. The metrics are not well differentiated

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very driven environment where you work with very smart people.
You will learn a lot the more years you stay.
They are continuously trying to improve work/life balance.
They are continuously innovating in new technology and staying ahead of market trends.
They are always looking at ways to make the performance evaluation process to be better (hard to say if it will ever be great-- but that is probably for every company).

    Cons

Very long hours. Leadership tends to let client get away with a lot more work than we should deliver, to ensure long-term client support (which is probably all of consulting). Have to work a lot of hours outside of actual client projects, through internal initiatives, to get higher ratings (the quality of the initiatives and activities you work on is very hard to judge, so it makes for a very unbalanced year-end review process).

    Advice to Management

Tell clients the hard truth about what they are not delivering , when the client promises to do work, but they end up getting us to do it for free (but at cost of extra hours of our own resources).

Invest more in the compensation of your experienced employees, that will prevent many good people from leaving in order to get a better salary bump elsewhere.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is definitely a powerhouse and is so huge that you could literally do anything if you position yourself correctly. Things are always changing, but they do put in effort to keep the employees in the know. There are many learning opportunities and the company invests as much as you put in. The people are great - some a-type tougher personalities, but generally a really easy bunch to get along with at all levels.

    Cons

The pay isn't anything special for the job. You'll have to work hard and long to get up to a place of feeling like you're making what you're worth. Also, management is strong but can definitely be mistrusting.

    Advice to Management

If an employee has made it through the process to get here, trust them and give them real responsibility.
