I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and really good compensation, the annual bonuses and merit increases are pretty decent and probably one of the best I’ve seen in Big 4. Overall there is a culture of encouraging growth within the organization, the leadership top down definitely takes time to listen to feedback.

    Cons

As with any big 4 consulting firm you have to be prepared to put in long hours at client sites, taking time off can be difficult if you are on a busy project although you get generous PTO. Promotions can be difficult if you don’t have supper from multiple partners and managing directors.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people - you can find your crew and hang with them.
    Good perks. Pay

    Cons

At the end of the day, consulting is a tough job. Long hours, on the road, and high pressure.
Projects can be a mixed bag - you either find something you are passionate about or you get stuck on projects that are not good fits and flame out.
Requirements for PRD/extracurricular activities mean you end up spending nights and weekends working on things to check a box.

    Advice to Management

Consulting/S&O specific - Provide operating model to the employees. You've been talking about a new vision for the company and giving us no clear view even though it goes into effect in June.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits (PTO, flexibility, etc.), good opportunities to travel & get a feel for the consulting lifestyle. Projects & clients can be very interesting and you'll meet a lot of intelligent and interesting people within your teams.

    Cons

The HR and hiring department/project reassignment assistance is practically useless. They are of really no help - it's all down to you and your networking abilities to find a new project once you roll off or a previous project ends. I'm honestly unsure what exactly the resource managers are getting paid to do, at least since the ones I know have been of zero help.

    Advice to Management

Since Deloitte is a MASSIVE global company, I'm targeting this towards managers and team leads - I know projects get very busy, but it would definitely be more helpful if you took more of an interest in actually checking in on the people working under you. Check-ins are supposed to happen biweekly or every month, and some managers are better at keeping this as a priority than others.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is high, but you'll earn it. You get experience across a wide swath of the inddustry/technology. Great place to start a career when you're unsure of what exactly you want to do.

    Cons

Depending on your project, long inflexible hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, but try to keep the 'community' fee after 2nd year BTA.

    Pros

working with the best- makes it a joy to get things done

    Cons

working with the best- means everyone is very driven and somewhat high strung

    Advice to Management

continue finding ways to teach people how a) master the basics so we don't get bogged down in details b) relax so we don't set unrealistic expectations

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Deloitte cares about all employees and their families. I have been with the firm for almost 8 years and plan on another 8!

    Cons

Typical consulting firm issues, size, work life balance, etc, however Deloitte has done and continues to do a great job at correcting and it really shows.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for all that you do!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Since it's the world's largest services firm, you'll find lots of colleagues and there will be many you like.

The firm clearly cares about its reputation--here on Glassdoor, and everywhere else--so it does all the surface stuff to be well regarded.

    Cons

NOT a firm of ideas. Never knows the difference between a good idea and a bad one; an old one and a new one; a valid one and a phony one. Impossible to find actual scholars at this firm.

ENTIRELY a sales culture. That's what is prized here: selling multi-million dollar engagements, then delivering months or years of ordinary implementation work.

Separately, it is a DO BE culture... Everyone is expected to be polite, enthusiastic, and to evidence a can-do attitude, even when they are being asked to do dumb stuff. This makes it very hard to be constructively critical in any way that leads to growth.

    Advice to Management

Try humility. Since the firm is so large, it confuses its scale with actual skill. It also assumes it got so large by being smart. Instead, it simply was the ONLY audit firm that in the post-Enron period that kept its consulting arm. This allowed them to swiftly be bigger than both the biggest consulting firms AND the biggest audit firms. Yet the decision to maintain their consulting arm was not made out of bravery or brilliance--all the partners at the time simply refused to contribute the money needed to split the firm up.

So they're lucky, not smart. Now they delude themselves into thinking they are brilliant. Given their extraordinary lack of intellectual curiosity and depth, this is kind of unbearable if you want to be in a thoughtful firm.
