I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

For the most part you will work with bright, talented people on relatively interesting projects. It's also possible to take advantage of various trainings to improve both your technical competence and leadership skills. You may have access to a number of relatively good trainings at Deloitte U (they can be a bit corny) so it's best to find a way to get the most out of it as possible. Overall it's a relatively good experience but I'm not sure it's worth a 5+ year investment (you have to stay at least 3 to get a promotion and at least 2 for a decent bonus). If you're looking to join Deloitte, learn to manage your own expectations and you'll have a relatively good experience.

    Cons

Not all projects are staffed appropriately (true with any Big 4 firm) but the expectations are you will work 60+ hours and pretend that the firm adheres to flexibility and predictability or work-life balance. And there are a lot of 'graspers' (managers especially) who are working their way up and on your back so be prepared. Lastly, your NETWORK is everything. Other firms reward client work and people management skills, but Deloitte rewards those who network whether they have good client work or not. Even at DU, you MUST network. Best advice is to find a niche and hope it pays off. If not, plan your exit after the September bonus clears.

    Advice to Management

Bring back the old performance management system. Scattershots and check-ins aren't working.

I worked at Deloitte as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are collegial, smart, and engaging. Pay is towards the top of the industry, definitely tops of big 4. Consulting practice is top of the pyramid within Deloitte and provides the quickest advancement

    Cons

Size can bring some added layers but still minimal compared to industry jobs. Networking is essential to advancement (not necessarily a con depending on the personality)

    Pros

Free Food and overall nice atmosphere. Great opportunities for networking and meeting new people.

    Cons

Long Hours and the expectation that you only leave the office when your superior leaves. Unrealistic when trying to promote the work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Just be honest about expectations. I don't think its fair for senior management to obviously start their days hours later than anyone else and then leave late (requiring everyone to stay) or leave early and then place extra duties on you to fulfill their needs.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great community! The people are excellent to work with. The experience looks great on a resume.

    Cons

Long, long hours. Company phone and laptop mean you are always on-call. Schedules can change regularly making it difficult to have work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Find more small incentives to keep employees motivated. More lunches/dinners/happy hours/ball games. Get employees out of the office and say thank you!
