I have been working at Deloitte (More than a year)

    Pros

Deloitte is a great place in terms of learning a lot of things in a span of a short time. Busy season alone feels which is typically 3 months feels like a full year worth of experience.

    Cons

Long hours should be expected when working big 4. Sometimes hours can be long during interim also so expect a sacrifice in terms of work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Increase cash bonus to all staff.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing PTO, maternity leave/ caregiver leave program. Training and resources are very good. Provides great opportunities for career development

    Cons

Some of their benefits are not great. Their 401K only matches at 25 cents to the dollar for the first 6%. They only compensate staff at market rate. Lots of late nights.

    Advice to Management

Increase some of the benefits to be comparable to industry. Pay a premium above market rates in each area.

    Pros

Relatively decent indirect benefits (Health, Pension, etc.)

    Cons

No work life balance and too many games to play.

I worked at Deloitte (Less than a year)

    Pros

People of Deloitte Houston are awesome. As an intern, I found great counselors and mentors throughout my experience and grew as a professional.

    Cons

The work is sometimes tedious, but that's the reality of every audit job. The team or the client might not be your cup of tea sometimes, but the firm tries to fix those situations swiftly.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to tell the interns exciting things: career advice, long term goals, sincere thoughts go a long way.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Sharp people, ownership over your career, strong support system, variety of clients / problems/ industries to consider

    Cons

Lots of travel, huge company so it can be hard to identify a network, ratings can be based more on who you know and how you pitch than how you performed

    Advice to Management

Continue working on flexibility in the workplace, make sure you do your due diligence on consultants' impact rather than relying just on the counselor to make the pitch

  8. "It's a relatively good place to work"

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

For the most part you will work with bright, talented people on relatively interesting projects. It's also possible to take advantage of various trainings to improve both your technical competence and leadership skills. You may have access to a number of relatively good trainings at Deloitte U (they can be a bit corny) so it's best to find a way to get the most out of it as possible. Overall it's a relatively good experience but I'm not sure it's worth a 5+ year investment (you have to stay at least 3 to get a promotion and at least 2 for a decent bonus). If you're looking to join Deloitte, learn to manage your own expectations and you'll have a relatively good experience.

    Cons

Not all projects are staffed appropriately (true with any Big 4 firm) but the expectations are you will work 60+ hours and pretend that the firm adheres to flexibility and predictability or work-life balance. And there are a lot of 'graspers' (managers especially) who are working their way up and on your back so be prepared. Lastly, your NETWORK is everything. Other firms reward client work and people management skills, but Deloitte rewards those who network whether they have good client work or not. Even at DU, you MUST network. Best advice is to find a niche and hope it pays off. If not, plan your exit after the September bonus clears.

    Advice to Management

Bring back the old performance management system. Scattershots and check-ins aren't working.

    Great benefits
    Fast paced learning
Work with lots of smart people

    Cons

Too many politics especially if you're not close with upper management

    Advice to Management

    Fix review system

I worked at Deloitte as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are collegial, smart, and engaging. Pay is towards the top of the industry, definitely tops of big 4. Consulting practice is top of the pyramid within Deloitte and provides the quickest advancement

    Cons

Size can bring some added layers but still minimal compared to industry jobs. Networking is essential to advancement (not necessarily a con depending on the personality)
