I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte as a whole is a great firm to work for. The firm cares about its people and the benefits are excellent. Great healthcare, 401k, well being subsidy, and PTO. Deloitte Internal Audit is a good place to start a career. The basics of auditing were taught, and Deloitte has great training programs.

    Cons

Internal service managers need training. A lot do not know how to deal with people. Internal Audit showed extreme favoritism and it was hard to get promoted if you were not one of the favorites. Internal Audit management did not seem to care to develop its staff and the turnover rate in the department was alarmingly high.

    Advice to Management

Firmwide- Train all managers in people skills and basic management skills.
Internal Audit- develop and invest in your people

I worked at Deloitte as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Deloitte pays interns really well, and they basically ensure that you work 40 hours and not more, so it's a great balance. [This may not be true for winter internships - I did summer]. The people at Deloitte are also really nice, chill, easy to talk to. I loved my teams.

    Cons

There is a lot of downtime in auditing - there were hours where I just had nothing-type work to do because we were waiting on our clients to provide information or the like.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    For an organization:
Pros: it is a second line of defence. It can prevent fraud if properly structured and trained. it acts as a watchdog of company's assets. It can help the company in mapping, understanding and managing risks.
Cons: it costs money. if not adequately staffed is pretty useless. It requires management time and attention sometimes for little or no gain. It is very often staffed by people who would not be useful at much else (I know from direct experience).
    For an individual:
Pros: The learning curve is steep:i.e. you learn fast. Is a great way to know an organization and build a reputation. You often get to travel a lot (if that's your thing...). You develop various competences IF you apply your brain at what you do.
Cons: it can be tedious at time. You learn a lot but you don't learn to really DO much...like with football you learn a lot more by playing 2 months than to watch for a lifetime. You learn about the game if you watch but it's just not the same.
You travel a lot, up to 70% of your time sometimes, and that sucks. Especially if you travel to "extotic" locations. You spend a lot of time on your own in hotels that all look the same and on planes (that really sucks...). Sarbanes Oxley testing (Sox). Nothing sucks as much. After few years it becomes pretty repetitive.

    Cons

mostly internal audit donot have cons but there can be scams due to poor internal audit like

    embezzlement of cash

    window dressing

    wrong financial statements

    Advice to Management

    Examine financial statements for accuracy
    Ensure compliance with regulations
    Perform data analysis
Report and address risk management issues
    Recommend on best practices
