I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work in the Risk Analytics team within the Risk Advisory service line. The people are almost without exception smart, hard-working, and friendly. Everyone is generous with their time and goes out of their way to be helpful. There is also encouragement to take risks, which creates an entrepreneurial culture.

Some of the work can be very interesting, and there is a lot of variety and scope to try different things.

    Cons

The biggest con I have found is that sometimes you are stuck on a boring project for an extended period of time, or are placed on projects that do not align with your interests or skills.

    Advice to Management

Accelerate the trend to move away from T&M-based projects by reducing utilisation targets in order to allow creation of innovative PoCs and the development of managed solutions rather than bespoke projects.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - high profile clients and projects with some interesting problems to solve
    - very social environment with a variety of projects
    - work life balance in general ok for consulting
    - life is very good as analyst/ consultant level with all the perks and less demanding expectations
    - because it's so big you definitely will meet some exceptional people who mentors you and helps you grow
    - free phone with latest model, upgraded every 3 years. Working technology in general above expectation. Good travel policy.

    Cons

    - Your experience is coincidental, can be extremely good or bad depending on people you work with. There is a lack of consistency of quality of people. To be fair 60% of projects are good experience but unfortunately it's the 40% that stinks and sticks.
    - Shocked by the lack of integrity of some colleagues, especially some people in leadership position - integrity and respect is not something highly valued by the company. Backstabbing is completely ok - it's an unspoken norm to climb up. HR is powerless and everything is down to Partners. Can't take it? Too bad - who ask you to be so weak?
    - Very hierarchical. There is no formal upward feedback. As long as seniors/ partners like you, you can abuse people under you with no consequence whatsoever. Certain managers only 'command' people and don't do any real work. Politics and sales take so much of their time that they forget what managing and coaching people mean.
    - Project work doesn't really differentiate performances - it's all about internal work and who you know. Certain leaders are not inclusive at all and only work with a small cluster of people. Even with new staffing tool, the process is still primarily relationship driven. Project opportunities may not open to you even though you have the most suitable skills.
    - Performance review is all about finding faults and imperfections about you rather than strength based. It is extremely subjective. Within 10mins a few partners who you probably never get a chance to work during the year define who you are and what bonus you are getting. Most people to them are just a number on a spreadsheet. There is no formal appeal process. You want to appeal? Be ready to hear how people lie, back stab, rip you apart and put a magnifying glass on your imperfections. It’s eye-opening how anecdotes can apparently paint a picture of you that’s unfamiliar to yourself or anyone who actually knows about you.
    - Lack of innovation. It's all about best practices and checking with experts. Original insights and innovative ideas are not rewarded because the firm is so risk focused. Not adding value to clients? Who cares?! As long as you are bringing revenue.

    Advice to Management

Put down the arrogance and be respectful to employee.
    Sort out performance management.
There are lot of really good people, however it's always the few bad ones that destroy a company's culture, value and reputation. Sad to see some of these people are promoted to senior/ leadership positions and make integrity and respect a joke.
There has to be formal 360 degree feedback for managers and above, that is taken seriously and has compensation impact!!!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

Great opportunity to work at different clients, traveling, benefits, interesting work, pensions. A global company with opportunities in different countries

    Cons

The bonuses are small and do not reflect the hard work that is required throughout the year. Projects can be hit or miss.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a huge emphasis on work/life balance at Deloitte. You are able to manage your own time and they are largely flexible on holiday timings (depending on your service line). They have been incredibly empathetic during times of need, such as family emergencies.

    Cons

You don't get anything unless you ask for it and your career progression goals can be overlooked entirely unless you pipe up.

Salaries slow in mid management level. You either stick it out go big, or go home after 3 years.

    Advice to Management

Take more of an interest in staff retention, I know numerous people who have quit Deloitte out of protest because they were under too much pressure from unrealistic working commitments.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good learning and development program
salary package is slightly better compared to the other Big 4 firms
Agile working - allows employees to work from home
London offices situated close to City

    Cons

    Too much politics
Attrition rates are very high and this has impacted workload for existing employees and so
    Long hours
Offshore resource team in HYD are not very productive / effective even though the Deloitte business model is to use that team for all transactional work.
Morale in the office is not very high
Leadership team looking to move /relocate a lot of the open positions to Cardiff and Bristol as it is cheaper, more cost effective for them but an operational nightmare.

    Advice to Management

Team morale needs to improve as it is impacting productivity
Messaging to the group needs to be open / transparent
Resourcing at team levels needs to be closely reviewed and monitored
HYD challenges need to be addressed

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People that work there are generally very smart.
Some interesting work and development in the Digital space

    Cons

It's all about partner profit and partners do make many irrational, self-interested decisions.
Anyone will stab you in the back with the aim of getting on - and this is practically encouraged/expected by the firm.
Some decent internal development courses available but very little chance of getting time off your project to attend.
It's easy to find yourself in the back of beyond, on some uninteresting project that isn't aligned to your skillset or career goals with little chance of getting out.

    Advice to Management

Sort out your employee model and engage properly with the non-partner team members
