I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will not find smarter people anywhere else, except other Big4 firms. The opportunities to learn on the job are tremendous. There is a chance at world travel, depending on the client. The experience will teach you so much more than just how to serve a client; it will teach you about yourself - who and what you are.

    Cons

After 150+ years (which they brag about), the business model hasn't changed. Everyone, including Partners, is measured against "chargeability". I saw another post on Glassdoor that implied how this contributes to bad behavior. It's particularly true at DC, since they are not truly relationship driven; they are more project driven. A good career strategy is to begin at DC and then look to move over to DT for a while. Also, adjust your expectations about making partner. You've got to put up with A LOT and for more than 8 years, maybe 10, to get "on deck".

    Advice to Management

For goodness sakes, listen and learn from your Millennials! Also, you're smart enough to keep Fortune Global 100 from making bad business decisions, yet haven't yet improved on the consulting business model? (It's more than staff augmentation) Also, why is there still a high degree of complaining about work-life-balance?

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great resources and training, exposure to c suite and senior management, work on interesting projects in a fast paced environment. Work with very smart people.

    Cons

The "network" isn't as helpful when you leave the firm, pay lip service to work - life balance / diversity and inclusion initiatives, but when it comes to execution, they are poor at following through. Over time, the culture has turned very professional and thus impersonal. Culture driven by promotion / competition. If you are not able to get promoted to the next level, your time with the firm is limited

    Advice to Management

Pay more than lip service on Diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance. Do more to build a sense of community. And see the value in professionals beyond the bottom line.

-Firm is very focused on personal growth. Very transparent promotion process.
    -Great pay.
-Great place to start a career. You will work for many clients and quickly develop expertise in your field. Definitely suggest consulting for anyone coming out of college.

    Cons

    -Work life balance sucks.
-Heavy on travel, would not advise this job if you have personal commitments at home.
-Your personal growth at Deloitte heavily depends on networking. This is hard for the introverted types like myself.

    Pros

Great place to start your career. The raises y-o-y are about 10%, which is pretty nice.

    Cons

As true for most other corporate jobs, the politics are a horrible part of the job. The 401k matching is essentially non-existent.

  7. "Great learning experience, good benefits, smart people, but underpaid for the amount of hours"

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - You learn a ton in a short period of time
    - Many benefits to working at a huge firm. It's not like a start up where you get free lunch everyday, but I would say you get a nice lunch at least once a week. During busy season all dinners are paid for and sometimes lunch for the whole week as well.
    - You get to work with really smart people that have a lot to offer in terms of knowledge and experience.
    - Depending on how proactive you are, you can work on a variety of different clients from large SEC clients to small private clients.
    - The opportunity for advancement is there. As long as you're doing a good job, you will systematically keep moving up. There are also opportunities outside of audit which you can pursue. One thing to note about opportunities outside of audit is that they make it seem like it's an easy switch, but it's not. It's actually very difficult. It can be done but you have to be highly rated and the timing has to be right.

    Cons

    - The hours are way too long for the amount of pay. The hourly rate ends up being pretty low when you calculate it using your actual hours worked.
    - Some of the partners/managers only care about the bottom line. Although the firm as a whole says one thing, the individual partners are really what determine your experience at the firm. This could go either way depending on who you're working with. Watch out if you get stuck with someone who only thinks about the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Even with the large amounts of cons, I still value my time at Deloitte and everything I learned. I'm glad to have had the experience. One thing I wish they changed is that the tone at the very top sounds like music to my ears, but sadly it never trickles down to the individual teams. Implementing a system of holding partners/managers accountable for not following the rules would be greatly beneficial to the firm.

    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to work with smart people
    Luxury surroundings
    High salary

    Cons

    Back stabbing by colleagues
May be benched for long periods of time and then dinged in performance review for this
Push to create client dependence by over prescribing "to do" items to fix their company
Placement of people without adequate experience on accounts
Reliance on internal networking in order to be assigned work

    Advice to Management

Don't place so much emphasis on performance management but instead develop your people to be able to succeed in their roles. Get rid of your high level partners who are known to be poor people leaders. Just because they sell business doesn't make them valuable to your business.
