I worked at Deloitte (Less than a year)

    Pros

Do you making money in a facility with a good coffee maker and nice colleagues stuck in the same predicament? Do you like clean, warm restrooms? There's a nice cafeteria on site and food trucks once a month.

    Cons

If you enjoy a low hourly rate that will demoralize you immediately, Deloitte document review is the place for you. Thirty minute lunch breaks are an excellent way to lose weight. Would you like to know sudden termination without reason by cowardly project managers who outsource firing? How about working in a windowless room? Here licensed attorneys are treated as if they are criminals waiting to find their true calling. Yes, it is as fun as it sounds.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to get rid of someone, do them the common courtesy of doing it so face to face. Do not act as if everything was fine, leave for the day, and then have someone do your dirty work via email. Here's hoping the legal market improves so that no one has to do this soulless work that makes one wonder why one went to law school so one could sit for hours, trying to make rent and pay bills and student loan payments.

    Pros

Deloitte has a good name on the street

    Cons

USDC is considered sub-par. All the Deloitte news press states it is a family -friendly company; however read the FINE print because the USDC is a different plan and not very good in that regard.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Number one benefit of being an employee at Deloitte is that it is resume gold. When you are ready to leave the firm, you will have no problem finding employment. Additionally, Deloitte does a great job at giving employees access to technical knowledge and training. They have invested millions in a national training facility in Westlake, TX called Deloitte University.

    Cons

One could argue that there is a culture crisis within ALL white-collar American employers (banks, hedge funds, consulting firms, etc.). Go down a layer into all of the Big 4 (EY, PwC, KPMG, and Deloitte), and you'll find a whole host of additional issues.

Deloitte Advisory struggles with finding effective managers who can manage a budget and inspire subordinates. Subject matter expertise and years of industry experience do not make you an effective leader. Period. The firm hires people left and right to simply fill a need without properly vetting whether they can manage and lead a team.

Additionally, people need to understand that client work at Deloitte is extremely hit and miss. One person could be on a low-stress, 40 hours project, while another person works 70 hours completely overwhelmed. With that said, though, the firm does not do an effective job at communicating standard cultural norms that should be present on every client engagement. For example: staff should not be guilted or bullied into not taking their earned paid time off (PTO) when they need to; staff should not have to listen to male managers, senior managers, and partners swear and use unfiltered and profane language; staff should not find out which client location they are traveling to 2 days before their scheduled departure; consultants and senior consultants should not be forced to manage upwards and play word games or track down their own managers when it comes to getting approval, feedback, or asking questions.

    Advice to Management

Whoever manages PR for the firm needs to do a better job at writing fake reviews on Glassdoor. Deloitte is doing no one favors by painting a false picture for people who may be interesting in employment with the firm.

You need to encourage people to take their earned PTO in a given calendar year. So many people are over-stressed and over-worked, but feel to trapped on a client engagement to take some much needed time off.

Monitor the emails that are sent between 5:01pm Friday and 7:59am Monday. People need to be called out for working on the weekends and sending emails, especially managers and senior managers.

After working at Deloitte, I firmly argue that it is wholly ineffective to have a top-down communication approach when it comes to cultural changes. Client projects are completely detached from Advisory leadership, and most of the senior managers and managers are tone-deaf to these types of changes anyways. The firm needs to link (whether partially or fully) senior managers' and managers' compensation to the review and comments of subordinates. This information should be captured in a real-time 360-degree review platform, where teammates of a project can submit concerns and comments to Human Resources (Talent).

The model of "open communication" on project teams and "collaboration between project leadership and subordinates" on an engagement does NOT work! Talent needs to own the high turnover at the firm and find a way to stop the issues that are plaguing Advisory.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

I cannot remember any positive experience actually... Everything I have encountered was slow, inflexible, and bureaucratic.

    Cons

A big organization, so hard to maneuver and know who is really making a difference to your own career. Frustrated during my entire tenure there.

    Advice to Management

Need to have more effective feedback system from bottom to top, in order to reduce the inefficiency currently in the org.

I worked at Deloitte (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at Deloitte is great for the resume. It also gives you good exposure to many different companies and industries.

    Cons

There is no reward for outside of the box thinking or distinguishing yourself. There seemed to be a general fear of the PCAOB and people did the audit to pass them.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more. People want to be heard. Also, don't talk about owning your career and then not letting them have any say in where they work and who they work with.
