I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will not find smarter people anywhere else, except other Big4 firms. The opportunities to learn on the job are tremendous. There is a chance at world travel, depending on the client. The experience will teach you so much more than just how to serve a client; it will teach you about yourself - who and what you are.

    Cons

After 150+ years (which they brag about), the business model hasn't changed. Everyone, including Partners, is measured against "chargeability". I saw another post on Glassdoor that implied how this contributes to bad behavior. It's particularly true at DC, since they are not truly relationship driven; they are more project driven. A good career strategy is to begin at DC and then look to move over to DT for a while. Also, adjust your expectations about making partner. You've got to put up with A LOT and for more than 8 years, maybe 10, to get "on deck".

    Advice to Management

For goodness sakes, listen and learn from your Millennials! Also, you're smart enough to keep Fortune Global 100 from making bad business decisions, yet haven't yet improved on the consulting business model? (It's more than staff augmentation) Also, why is there still a high degree of complaining about work-life-balance?

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work options, virtual work options. Great people, benefits, PTO - very progressive work environment. Deloitte cares about your life outside of work and offers benefits and situations to accommodate real people. You have to work hard, and be skilled - but you can make work fit your life.

    Cons

Huge company. Lots of bureaucracy. Major focus on networking for promotions and getting ahead. Who you know is very important. This isn't necessarily bad, just an added dimension to already busy workload.

    Advice to Management

Focus on skills and ability to get the job done.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some really smart and kind people at Deloitte. These people do some difficult and worthwhile work. Deloitte delivers a lot of value for a lot of people, and some people can make a great career here.

    Cons

This is a terrible place to work if you want to make innovative, compelling, consumer-facing web or mobile experiences. If you are a developer or designer who wants to work on leading edge experiences, do not come here! It is nothing like leading digital agencies (e.g. AKQA, Razorfish, R/GA etc...). Deloitte Digital is just a rebranding of the old, vanilla enterprise tech consulting services Deloitte has always provided.

Most of the work Deloitte is involved in tech wise is extremely vanilla and not at all innovative (i.e. call them if you need an Oracle or SAP package architected and configured, nothing else). There are very few US-based engineers who actually get their hands dirty, and very few designers. US-based folks with engineering backgrounds are powerpoint deck makers and project managers.

Deloitte will put any warm body on any project (it doesn't matter if you're a front-end developer, you might end up leading a QA team for an Oracle financials implementation, or writing status reports for a client's PMO office).

Selling work is everything at Deloitte, and as a result they often present people to clients as experts who are not even remotely experts (e.g. have never used the technology, have never designed or built anything).

Deloitte leans a lot on their IP. Most of their work products are PPT decks modeled on other (often poorly understood/contextualized) PPT decks. Sometimes, entire projects are run by someone with very little or any experience with the process or knowledge domain, based on a set of deliverable templates created years ago.

Deloitte is also a place where charming sociopaths (who present a great face upwards to their managers, but make their direct reports lives hell through ambiguity and incompetence) can thrive.

Deloitte operates on a 'farm team' model, value extraction at its maximum. They recruit a bunch of smart, insecure, ambitious young people each year, get the most they can out of them by treating them as endless fountains of cheap (to Deloitte,) billable hours, and the ones that don't wash out after a couple years, rise through the ranks to extract value from the next generation.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great resources and training, exposure to c suite and senior management, work on interesting projects in a fast paced environment. Work with very smart people.

    Cons

The "network" isn't as helpful when you leave the firm, pay lip service to work - life balance / diversity and inclusion initiatives, but when it comes to execution, they are poor at following through. Over time, the culture has turned very professional and thus impersonal. Culture driven by promotion / competition. If you are not able to get promoted to the next level, your time with the firm is limited

    Advice to Management

Pay more than lip service on Diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance. Do more to build a sense of community. And see the value in professionals beyond the bottom line.
