I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Client work can be extremely rewarding since projects typically focus on helping the world's top organizations solve their most difficult problems. This provides an unparalleled preparation for future executive leadership (be it within Deloitte or without). The company also places an emphasis on maintaining strong relationships with company alumni through its colleagues for life program.

    Cons

Travel requirements can be extremely excessive, which makes it very difficult to maintain a quality life outside of work. Furthermore, because Deloitte follows a matrix organizational structure, the company often does not have a strong view into if employees are being overworked. This often creates a somewhat heavy "churn and burn" approach to staff development. Finally, because PTO is not factored into utilization (a key metric used to evaluate employee performance), employees often feel pressured into passing up taking time off, which increases the likelihood of staff burn out.

    Advice to Management

Look into increasing the use of alternative work arrangements (e.g., 2 weeks onsite 2 weeks remote). Also, consider removing PTO out if the utilization calculation.

    Pros

    -Flexibility
    -Charted career path
    -Wonderful people
    -Company culture/values are great

    Cons

    -Corporate structure
-Promotions and bonuses are handled at highest level, people who don't know you, and sometimes appear very unbalanced

    Advice to Management

Leave it up to local offices to distribute bonuses and promotions. It's frustrating to see people getting promoted just because they have a persistent/good counselor.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Globally respected company. Access to professional network. Exposure to top tier professionals. Great PTO.

    Cons

Hours are horrendous in from Jan - Apr. Slow and boring in the summer. Pay is painfully low for the work. Work experience gained is very niche/siloed - it all points toward Controller positions.

    Advice to Management

Compensate people for the work they are doing in the now; relying on other companies to value Big Four experience with a large pay increase (without practical experience) is pretentious.

-Ability to "own" your project / career
    -Good benefits

    Cons

    -Work/life balance
-Pay at certain levels not equal to industry

    Advice to Management

-Have one's travel time count towards "utilization" percentages
