I worked at Deloitte as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked as a Transfer Pricing Intern during the Summer of 2017 and I had one of the best bosses, in the way that she really took her time and invested in letting me know the history and structure of each of the companies we analyzed. They have a lot of social activity for the employees and great benefits (even for interns). They celebrate all of the employees' birthdays (with cake). Great management, they really seem to care about having a social/comfortable corporate culture. My co-workers were also really helpful whenever I would get stuck with something and I ended up learning a lot during the course of 10 weeks.

    Cons

Sometimes because you are an intern they will seem to make you work on tedious tasks that no other employee wants to do and it was this way for the first half of the internship.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, amazing perks, great corporate culture

    Cons

Hours will destroy you. My busy season was 9am-2am some nights. That made my hourly pay less than a McDonalds employee.

    Advice to Management

If you want to retain your people, pay them more.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generous traveling/meal per diems. Extremely talented coworkers. Flexibility for working remotely. Generous work phone plan. Fairly easy to get your first promotion to Senior, and then again to Manager.

    Cons

Extremely tight deadlines. Partners over promise clients on deliverable timelines. PTO is frowned upon. Very common to work most weekends. 60 hour weeks are common and rewarded.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Name value of Deloitte sure doesn't disappoint - even as a first year auditor, the learning curve is steep and you learn the ins and outs of the basic core of a business, how it runs, how it shouldn't run, and have the opportunity to interact with individuals ranging from staff accountant to corporate controller to VP of finance. For anyone with a business/economics/accounting background, this is an awesome start to your career. People on your team are extremely smart individuals who have stayed and are still employed for a reason. Granted, there may be differences of opinion and experiences depending on which client and team you are assigned to.
But it really is what you make of it out of your own career, as no one is going to teach you how to steer your own ship.

Fantastic experience so far, haven't stopped learning, and everyday is a challenge.

    Cons

    Nothing to complain about

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good perks and benefits (Marketplace, concierge for busy season, fitness subsidy)

    Cons

Within audit line, there is no work/life balance which promotes burnout. There is a lack of understanding or empathy within resource management about personal circumstances (they send you wherever then want whenever they want to). Mobility can be a challenge, and your prospects depend highly on the teams you are on. Some teams within the firm are known to have a toxic culture, as is resource management, and performance metrics lack transparency, unless you have a team that is very invested in your personal development.

    Advice to Management

Promote greater work/life balance and empathy from tenured performers in resource management to prevent high turnover among employees. Utilization rates and hours should be valued as less important than the actual value-add provided by employees. Performance should be measured and compensated with more transparency.

    Advice to Management

Try and employ Jeff Wiener's philosophy of empathetic management with regards to how you treat your staff. I understand everyone needs to "pay their dues" however employing bullying tactics goes too far. I want to emphasize that not all managers bully, but there are a good amount that do due to the nature of professional services.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Vast network of knowledgeable professionals
High-paced environment that encourages growth and learning
Opportunities to ascend the corporate ladder
Friendly colleagues who are always willing to help

    Cons

Difficult to maintain work/life balance during busy season
Work processes can be hindered by bureaucratic policies
Management politics are kept under wraps in the background
Easy to burn out from constant work, emails, meetings, and phone calls

    Advice to Management

Try to be more transparent about workplace issues instead of giving the "standard corporate answers" that people want to hear. This would increase trust, potentially reveal other issues that need to be addressed, and prevent gossip/hearsay that is inaccurate.
