I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some people are very knowledgeable, some no so. You need to be selective with which team(s) you get into. Great work life balance, very good infrastructure to work from home or flexibly. Teams are geographically dispersed.

    Cons

Some managers are short sighted, but directors and above are often insightful.
Medium to lower salaries to other companies.

  3. "Strong focus on culture. Work hard play hard."

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consultants within my practice were empowered to run projects if they proved their capability. If you're keen to learn by doing, this company gives you more than a fair share of opportunities, feedback and learning opportunities. Good culture around teams and plenty of after-work parties (this varies from team to team).

    Cons

I worked in analytics and data science functions within consulting. Deloitte and other tier 1 consulting firms in Australia still don't seem to have worked out the idea of using data driven decision science methodologies (so popular in Silicon Valley) in consulting. So consultants in data practices often end up delivering technology implementation projects or simply build analytical dashboards for the strategy consultants to use.
Please review compensation to stem a percentage of attrition.

    Advice to Management

Build USP and business model out of data science, data driven decision making, metric building and modelling.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Strong mentorship system
    - Regular career talks and workflow alignment

    Cons

    - Heavily political environment
    - Heavy workload

    Advice to Management

Allow WFH to all levels of staff

I worked at Deloitte full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    High calibre colleagues
Colleagues who genuinely care about clients
    Great career path

    Cons

Without Partner level support you cannot be successful.

The political infighting and land-grabbing behavior is counter productive and shines a light on some of the most grotesque characteristics of human nature.

Until you reach Partner level, your success or failure is in part contingent on the level of Partner support you receive. You might even establish a new service offering but if the Partner isn't willing, capable, or have enough respect among his / her colleagues, it will be neigh on impossible bringing the service to market. It can be even more challenging when you learn your partner is actively subverting your efforts.

    Advice to Management

Develop a remuneration model that encourages different business units to collaborate together on engagements.

Perform a review of your overall staff turnover, if over half the team leaves in the space of 18 months, then the answer is you have a toxic partner. Get rid of toxic partners.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is a diverse professional services organisation that services virtually every significant organisation in Australian, and embraces diversity of thinking, gender etc

    Cons

Bureaucratic, conservative, and unwilling to invest in better systems to empower its staff. Process is a drag on creativity and excellence, leading to the stars leaving and a reversion to the mean over time. Add in a compensation system Ponzi would be proud of, and its unclear if Deloitte can attract and retain the people it needs.

    Advice to Management

Be prepared to reward the best performers and invest in innovation - the IP factory is a pale imitation of real innovation

  7. "Huge Bias against older staff and applicants who are more than 40 years of age and female."

I worked at Deloitte as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As much as the organisation says all the right things around not having biases in recruiting it really talks about it and doesn't live up to the values it states. Disappointing.

    Cons

I witnessed many recruitment programs where they blatantly discriminated against women and particularly over 40 years of age. Age discrimination is alive and well at their company and in a world which should recognise that its about the person and their capability not their age ....

    Advice to Management

Stop talking and start walking the talk.... So disappointing that a top 4 like many of them are the worst offenders when it comes to biases.

  8. "A lot depends on the team you're with but I wouldn't recommend for grads"

I worked at Deloitte part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big Company - lot's of people means lot's of diverse opportunities
Safety - not a lot of people leave
    Moderate to High Salaries

    Cons

    Traditional Risk Averse Culture
In terms of people, a lot depends on the team you're with, but senior people who are paid to be the experts are usually afraid to say 'I don't know'
Bad Managers/Employees can stay complacent in the organisation
    Prioritise business, not people/users/customers/employees
Engineering Led - Build products first, ask if this is the right thing to build later

    Advice to Management

Encourage Partners and leadership to listen to on the ground employees, they can be your biggest asset

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Looks great on a resume

    Cons

Leadership have been in roles too long and see people as dispensable . No support from hr to manage people. Lack of feedback

    Advice to Management

Drive out the bullies and build strong support functions to help us better deliver to our clients rather than doing the job these people are paid to do - hr, recruitment mainly
