I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is the best jumping off place for recent college grads. Opportunities after Deloitte are many: job in industry, grad school / MBA, or even more consulting.

    Cons

80% travel is the major burden. Most new hires burn out in 2-3 years. A few can make the adjustment and will continue to do the work. Nothing new here.

    Pros

    Great culture
    Lots of available learning
Leadership has an open door policy
    Great flexibility within some departments
Great work/life balance with most of the functions

    Cons

If you're not in a function that brings in revenue, it will be very difficult to progress your career. Pay and bonuses are not competitive with the other firms.

    Advice to Management

Layout a career path for your employees based on their experience, personal desires, and company need. Work with your employees on EXACTLY what is expected from them to progress and/or get a high rating for the year.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you work in at Deloitte Federal you know you're feeding from the federal government trough. It's a steady paycheck.

    Cons

Disassociated management. Ill defined goals and direction. Poor compensation. Middle management who speak word-salad. Old boys club. If you're not a partner you don't count.

    Advice to Management

What's the use? You haven't listened to anyone reasonable or sane for quite a while now. Give yourselves another raise.

I worked at Deloitte as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Employs a lot of people Has a long history, but when you feel the need to change your name every decade or so, you have a corporate culture problem.

    Cons

80% of their direct hires are not U.S. citizens. It allows them to hire ultra-cheap and jettison any and all back to their homelands. They expect 10 to 18 hours a day of your time and whenever you get home they expect you to study their corporate procedures and policies (which you will be tested on) in order to remain employed and advance within the company. Most Americans they employ only hang around long enough to have a nice bullet on their resume and leave as fast as they can.
Deloitte has two long running contracts with the state of Mass. and the state of PA. They won these contracts in 2003, and were supposed to convert their systems from mainframe to mainframe being used as a data-store/server with a new front-end in JAVA and/or Oracle. More than ten years later neither has been completed.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to fool people about your hiring practices If you want people to work more than 8 hours you must be willing to pay them for those excess hours. Hire more Americans than you do people from other countries, or at least be 100% honest about it.

    Pros

    Cons

    Advice to Management

    Be fair with the employees

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are great, salaries are competitive and the opportunities to learn are abundant

    Cons

Most of the US firms back office resources are overseas. Too much emphasis on working remotely and the office of the future eliminates privacy.

    Advice to Management

Years ago Deloiite was about its people and it was a wonderful place to work. It's now more elitist and only the top of pyramid is treated well
