Get feedback from juniors. Spend time with juniors. Make sensible development plans for staff.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong deal flow, access to a range of resources, implied working flexibility, good training platform with a good reputation (if you're in the right team)

    Cons

The work flexibility proposed by the company doesn't apply in M&A. Typically working over 65 hours p/w before weekends and without lunches and gym sessions etc. Pay is very poor. Only worth staying if you want to make partner or use it as a training platform.

    Advice to Management

Allow more flexibility around pay structures. Paying everyone per banding is geared towards a public service environment and doesn't reward the harder workers. Also, more than one pay review period per year should be applied - again there should be flexibility here.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Talented colleagues, really interesting client work and the opportunity to stretch yourself across a variety of disciplines

    Cons

Salary is poor, and keeps getting poorer, the gulf between the equity partners (who represent 4% of the headcount and take home 33% of the pie) is massive - which makes it very hierarchical.
The emphasis on leadership is absent - people get to the top by winning work and having good numbers, not by being an inspirational people person

    Advice to Management

Your business model is unsustainable in the long run. The equity partner model cannot continue in an industry where are margins are continually being eroded

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Prestigious firm to work for, well respected, has a broad range of offerings and is well regarded by clients. There is opportunity for growth and promotions if you're in the right part of the business. Some of the work is interesting and you work with some amazing clients.

    Cons

While a lot of fluffy stuff is said about doing right by employees, leading people well, offering growth, giving back to society, offering work-life balance etc., it all really comes back to the bottom line and these are just nice things that are said. It's about winning business, controlling costs, and maximising profit for partners, even if that means that junior or mid-level staff are run into the ground. In fact, the business model relies on everyone working too much. The strategy changes too often, meaning money is wasted on initiatives that never get to their full potential before being pulled. Budgets are wasted, redundancies occur in areas with weaker growth, but the partners still get their record payouts.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to truly think long term. Partner payouts create perverse incentives for partners to think short-term, particularly as they approach retirement. What's their incentive to sign off on investment that will only pay out years down the line? There must be a way to address this. Below the top levels (i.e. below the firm-wide level) the strategy changes too frequently for anything to truly bed in.

    Pros

Great training and experience outside the normal big corporate surveying practices typical workload.

    Cons

Lacking strategic vision and growth. Limited opportunities for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Decide whether the business is going to be an internal operation to support the wider business or if it can be an open externally driven operation.

    Pros

Good environment, learned a lot about excel, power point, word and technical methodologies, worked on different industries, assignements,
    Good job up until director

    Cons

Too many managing directors and as a result very little chance to become a partner one day
    Good job up until director

    Advice to Management

Seniors and managers should participate more in meeting with clients to improve their inter personnel skills. Plus the managing director should have at least one meeting a year with juniors and seniors
