I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The expectations are high and you will have the opportunity to work on challenging firm engagements apart from any client work. The pay package is on the higher side of the industry. Great team culture. Provides good opportunities for networking.

    Cons

You are pretty much on your to find new engagements through networking. The company does have resource managers but never got any help from them

    Advice to Management

The company should have an effective framework to help employees find new engagements rather than expect them find opportunities via networking. Though networking is good, it may be difficult for them to build network while working on client engagements. Also, the pressure to work on firm engagements need to be eased.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte invests in professional development for employees at all levels (e.g., milestone programs at Deloitte University after each promotion). Senior leadership is very engaged in maintaining a positive organizational culture. Brilliant colleagues. Innovative thought leadership. Diverse clients. Respected brand leading the way for employee welfare programs like the 16 weeks of family leave.

    Cons

Expectations are high and the hours can be long to balance utilization with business development and Firm initiatives. It's a competitive organization, but overall, peers are supportive of one another.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in professional development throughout the career life-cycle.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Awesome benefits and great top cover if you align with the right senior folks. They take really good care of employees but expect a lot in return. Kind of like they own you.

    Cons

As you move up the chain, you will find it super competitive. The pyramid model invites backstabbing and nastiness from folks clawing their way up.

    Advice to Management

It's OK to compare peers to peers but there is a point where over transparency has negative impact on your practitioners

    Pros

You own your own career and professional development. Great place to start your professional career. Deloitte really invest in developing people...not just lip service

    Cons

Politics.......politics....politics you have to get in with the right clique to advance......cut throat and back stabbing at all levels in oeder to succeed and get promoted.....experienced hires at a disadvantage, especially those hired at the Manager level

    Advice to Management

remove the subjectivity out of the performance review process. there stills seems to been an element of who you know and who your are connected to in order to be successfull

    Pros

    TL;DR:

    -great benefits
-some of the smartest people i've worked with, from a technical perspective
-good management at least on my project

Deloitte is a good company, particularly if you have a passion for your work and manage to get onto a project (keep that in mind for later) that generally interests you. You can easily expect a yearly raise (this is a huge firm after all), especially if you put the work into your projects. I'm not exactly a social butterfly, but I haven't really met any people that acted unprofessionally. The team I work with knows when to get serious, and when to crack a joke, but we always manage to get our work done on time. Your work will get recognized if you put enough effort into it, and the firm will look for work for you if your current project falls through. They are trending towards having more work/life balance throughout the year, adding 1-2 more "well being" days for employees (essentially more days off).

    Cons

And now for the cons. These cons are the only reason I didn't rate Deloitte 4/5 stars, but I have my reasons:

-utilization metrics: you are expected to put in X amount of hours per years towards the client based on your job title. This can get tedious to manage; you will NEVER be able to reasonably use all your vacation days, and you will likely accrue way more than you actually use thanks to this system -- which makes it impossible to use all your vacation.

-tedious oversight. You will have a "counselor" that you check in with occasionally, you are expected to confirm your work availability at the beginning of each week, you will need X amount of learning hours per year that you do on your own outside of these courses. You are strongly encouraged to "contribute to the firm" in some form in order to look better at the year end. You can work hard but only get recognized for average work.

-networking can be a real pain. You are strongly encourage to network -- in fact you pretty much have to, if you want to find a project that you are interested in. Even then, it can be virtually impossible to get in touch with people that can get you onto a project you are interested in. You may spend days, weeks, waiting for an email reply -- but often you will have to bug people multiple times. Be ready for many dead ends. Talk is cheap but email is cheaper. This is easily my main con, as I have been trying to get onto a cybersecurity project for over a year.

    Advice to Management

Be more responsive and respectful of people lower on the food chain (and actually respond to emails); maybe then the turnover rate won't be so high for people working more than 2-3 years.
