I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work with some of the smartest and most technically saavy professionals (tax), stay on cutting edge of technical developments, access to great client base, intellectually stimulating work, good benefits, flexibility in how and when to get work done.

    Cons

Very demanding culture. Client service comes first except in a true emergency. You need to create your own work/life balance as best as you can.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to people's suggestions and concerns at all levels. Don't just cater to the youngest employees and assume that the more senior folks will "put up with whatever".

I have been working at Deloitte

    Pros

Control, freedom, and client access in a consultancy is way better than at an agency. No inherent hierarchy. Get to work in a wide rage of industries and technologies. Finally have job security.

    Cons

The work is only digital so I do miss more holistic brand projects. Working for Deloitte as a creative involves a lot of corporate weirdness and Senior Manageto are nightmares!!!

    Advice to Management

Stop underpaying the creatives compares to the other consultants!!!!!

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Awesome space. Clients are huge. Tons of freedom to explore and try ideas. Decent pay.

    Cons

Generally a clique type environment, specifically amongst the creatives. For many Deloitte was their first job and they had an incredibly elitist attitude to others joining. This almost seemed fostered and encouraged by management.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the issues and elitism and do something about it. The people that really were passionate about what they did brought it every day and made huge things happen with massive clients.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Since it's the world's largest services firm, you'll find lots of colleagues and there will be many you like. The firm clearly cares about its reputation--here on Glassdoor, and everywhere else--so it does all the surface stuff to be well regarded.

    Cons

NOT a firm of ideas. Never knows the difference between a good idea and a bad one; an old one and a new one; a valid one and a phony one. Impossible to find actual scholars at this firm. ENTIRELY a sales culture. That's what is prized here: selling multi-million dollar engagements, then delivering months or years of ordinary implementation work. Separately, it is a DO BE culture... Everyone is expected to be... polite, enthusiastic, and to evidence a can-do attitude, even when they are being asked to do dumb stuff. This makes it very hard to be constructively critical in any way that leads to growth.

    Advice to Management

Try humility. Since the firm is so large, it confuses its scale with actual skill. It also assumes it got so large by being smart. Instead, it simply was the ONLY audit firm that in the post-Enron period that kept its consulting arm. This allowed them to swiftly be bigger than both the biggest consulting firms AND the biggest audit firms. Yet the decision to maintain their consulting arm was not made out of bravery... or brilliance--all the partners at the time simply refused to contribute the money needed to split the firm up. So they're lucky, not smart. Now they delude themselves into thinking they are brilliant. Given their extraordinary lack of intellectual curiosity and depth, this is kind of unbearable if you want to be in a thoughtful firm.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Culture of performance and meeting client deadlines

    Cons

For a company that desperately fights to be in the top 100 places to work, Deloitte has a poor concept of leading and developing people. They use "leadership" all over the place like a label, but I saw very little of it. The leaders are typically self-serving and manipulating. While there are good people in the organization, a common theme for most is group think, little care for it's people which they try to... offset with benefits, "plastic" communication that feels awkwardly inauthentic except for those that have grown up at Deloitte. I came to the firm a high performer and eager to assimilate and add value, but ran into a disappointing set of leaders and thought-leadership I have ever experienced.

    Advice to Management

Think outside the box and develop leader. Start with small, brave step that can start changing the destructive culture.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Interesting work. Lots of great professionals. Outstanding networking opportunities. Very competitive salary and benefits. Lots of flexibility. Good training programs.

    Cons

Very high pressure environment. Lots of long hours with little control over work life balance. Very unusual staffing model. Lines of reporting very blurred.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to "play to each individuals strengths and minimize weaknesses " Acknowledge that people have different strengths and weaknesses and that the team could be stronger of if management could understand that one size fits all is not the best strategy.
