I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Finance talent at Manager level and below.

    Cons

Executive finance team is very poor at leadership, communication, and seem to be only looking short term and not making decisions for the long term interest of the company. The company has no loyalty to its employees and simply uses and abuses its team.

    Advice to Management

Start treating your employees as a valuable asset and not simply as a cost which should be reduced at any cost.

    Pros

None. People there had a niche for wasting theirs and other people's time. I am pressing real hard to think of a positive but I can't find any.

    Cons

Worst waste of time ever. I shouldn't have done this work-study thing, it was a complete waste of time instead should've taken at least one more course.

    Advice to Management

Maybe appreciate the skill set of employees and students and do not waste their time so vicariously. We all have important things to do with our time.

I worked at Delphi (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Paycheck. Benefits. Paid Holidays. Weekends

    Cons

Everything but the paycheck. The WORST JOB I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. They have no respect for anyone or anything.

    Advice to Management

Get a personality and some people skills would be nice too

I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong recruitment and career development policies in 1990s, before separation from GM, created a strong in-house technical competency. There were a lot of talented people on-board, and it was generally a good work environment with the possibility for career advancement.

    Cons

Delphi was poorly managed after separating from GM, and has been on a death-spiral ever since bankruptcy. Management and HR have been primarily focused on a cost reduction / down-sizing path for last 10 years with little consideration on how to sustain / grow into the future. It is management by crisis with the main goal being to make a short-term budget. There is little respect for long-time employees who are viewed as financial liabilities rather than sources of experience and knowledge. There is a sense of dread hanging in the air most days, particularly for employees approaching age 50 as they know their time is short until the next round of cuts. Delphi offers at-will, day-by-day employment, so it is clear they don't really value people, despite the contrary rhetoric used in their public statements.

    Advice to Management

Bring on-board leadership with a true passion for excellence who embrace integrity and loyalty, not just those who look good in a suit but can do no more than use those words in a policy statement.

    Pros

Friendly employees and some salary employees

    Cons

Two-faced management, will praise you to your face but put a knife in your back when you are not around.

    Advice to Management

    Be open with people

I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

26 years of employment before I had enough and jumped. Pay and benefits were decent. In it's day was an exciting place to work and grow your knowledge. Place you were proud to say you worked. I worked hard to get hired by Delco, worked hard throughout my career as a dedicated employee. NEVER expected to leave Delphi... Didn't realize how bad I despised what Delphi had become.

    Cons

High level management no longer valued people or experience of their senior engineers. Continual rounds of cuts just to make budget so exec's got their bonuses. People overloaded and worked 7 days a week on projects without pay over 40 hours because project managers agree to development schedules that are not achievable because they don't have a clue what work is involved.

    Advice to Management

Put management back in the hands of people that have a clue of engineering and design cycles. Realize it's the people that ultimately make the money. They deserve to be treated as human- not robots that have no life outside of work.

I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

Treated like a number. When quarterly results aren't good, management cuts expenses by getting together to decide who they can fire next. Older workers and those that are on sick or pregnancy leave are especially targeted. Management hides this by getting the workers to sign legal releases to prevent them from suing before they will give them any severance money.

    Advice to Management

Treat your older workers humanely. They have invested much of their lives to help out your company, and now that they are near retirement, you are dumping them on the job market at an age when they will have a difficult time finding another job. You expect loyalty from your employees yet you are not being loyal to them.

I have been working at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the most brilliant engineers I've ever worked with until the company was taken over by the hedge fund owners. A technology leader that has fallen due to the exodus of the many of the most talented.

    Cons

Constant layoffs, forced retirements, continual salary and benefit cuts, terminated pension plan employees in their 40's and 50's with huge losses to make up in the short time remaining before retirement. Horrible Morale due to employees being viewed as disposable liabilities. Systematically bleeding US locations to death while moving the work offshore.

    Advice to Management

Change your attitude toward your workforce. Morale will not improve until they see that you have a plan to grow the company and value the contributions of a talented workforce.

I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A funded paycheck. If you are bored, you will spend all your waking moments doing what management thinks is important.

    Cons

Employees are simply a means for the owners and executives to line their pockets.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like assets, not dirt.
