I worked at Delphi (More than a year)

    Pros

Large size organization with global exposure.
    Friendly working environment
    Good pay

    Cons

Despite the auto industry is doing relatively well in recent years and the company itself has been delivering solid financial performance; the lay-off is a continuing trend within the company. It makes one to question 1). employee morale and loyalty; 2). the future direction of the company and 3). obtaining and maintaining true talents in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Understand, appreciate and act on the obstacles, challenges and real issues that prevent the company from becoming a true leader in the industry. Deploy solutions that aim at long term sustaining improvements. To cut 10% in current fiscal year by perpetual penny pinching suppliers along your supply chain is not the only way. Certainly not a sustainable one.

I have been working at Delphi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great flexibility to work remotely. Lots of change to become an IT and not just an automotive company.

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics. I am a seasoned professional and have experience in very diverse areas and I have never seen an organization that spends so much energy on politics rather on delivery. Popularity contests are the status quo with the same people getting visibility and opportunities for growth (regardless of other people's skills).

    Advice to Management

Start learning about ALL of the people in the organization rather than the chosen few.

I worked at Delphi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Still a few good engineers left at Delphi. Entry level positions good for gaining much needed experience in a high-tech field.

    Cons

Clueless management, decreased pay and benefits, lack of job security, zero manufacturing in USA. Management / ownership has done everything humanly possible to ruin the business, betting everything on the outsourced engineer and is paying the price. What used to be a good place to work (in Kokomo, IN) has been reduced to an average employer for getting a foot into the engineering profession with no hope for a future or career. In a good economy, Delphi in Kokomo has nothing to offer to attract top talent in engineering.

Long-term business outlook is very poor for Delphi. Only hope for Delphi sustaining current business model is to hope that competitors follow the same path of self-destruction.

    Advice to Management

Ten H1B Visa employees who have no skills or experience and cannot do the job of one experienced engineer is NOT a good business plan for a so-called high-tech company.

    I worked at Delphi full-time

    Pros

Was a leader in automotive technology, well equipped labs, fellow engineers support each other, new younger employees are safe

    Cons

constantly overworked, high stress due constant fear of being let go if you are long term employee, in favor of younger, new employees Company does most of its downsizing at Christmass unexpectedly. Religiously lays off lots of salaried folks every year since 2009.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees , don't sugar coat how the business is going then drop the boom without warning.

    Cons

Leadership is focused on meeting financials. Do not follow thru on development opportunities. Salaries for current employees are low compared to same position hired from the outside.

    Pros

Exciting safety products plus recently won business with OEMs.

    Cons

We finally had the budget to hire some additional personnel, interviewed several and made a selection. But, approval to actually extend an offer must be granted by the company president, and his answer is "not this quarter." So, we wasted our time and the recruits' time, because none of them will be available in another quarter.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing quarter to quarter, and staff for the business we just won BEFORE we fail to execute due to shortage of manpower.
