I have been working at Delta Dental Plans Association full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All of the people in the IT department are really sharp.

    Cons

We are under going changes in management.

    Advice to Management

The people are our number one asset, don't get caught up in bottom line numbers and overlook the power of the people.

I worked at Delta Dental Plans Association full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They try to promote healthy eating and well-being.

    Cons

No mentoring, poor upper management, they keep poor performing employees, in fact they seem to reward bad behavior. Their pay scale is below market.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to take a class to keep their skills up to date. HR seems to be the worst department.

I have been working at Delta Dental Plans Association full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are really good. 401k matching up to 6%, free vision and dental insurance. Yearly bonus and raise if you meet the company's numbers.

    Cons

100+ phone calls a day. Most calls are angry, you get yelled at, cussed at and hung up on a lot.

    Advice to Management

Back up customer service reps. Actually help take calls and do the work. Be a team player. Don't have favorite employee. Don't promote lazy team leads because they're your friend of 10 years.

    Pros

They take care of their employees.
    Lots of opportunities to grow.
If you are a self starter and motivated this is the place for you.
Excellent pay, performance bonus and benefits.
401k benefits blows away anyone in the valley including the likes of Google, Apple, etc.

    Cons

With any large organization there is bureaucracy and politics.
Work life balance is a challenge. However the company off late is addressing these issues.
No Stock Options as it is a non-profit. However this is addressed by incentives. For some people Cash in hand is better than paper.

    Advice to Management

Listen at all levels. There is humongous potential for us. Lets be creative and lets innovate in the healthcare space.

I worked at Delta Dental Plans Association full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits. Location. Green building.

    Cons

No accountability. Management do not get rid of bad employees that are hindering performance of others and those employees that want to make a difference. Poor HR department. They talk about collaboration and communication yet nothing is ever discussed. Policies haven't been updated in years.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to attend some of those training classes they make lower levels employees attend. Update policies. Stop being afraid to terminate bad apples.

    Pros

Some very kind people, excellent benefits, low stress, very successful company with good bonus.

    Cons

Very stuck in doing things the way they always have. IT is very incompetent which slows down all other departments. Pay is not good if you live in the Bay Area.

    Advice to Management

You talk about the need for collaboration and communication but then we see the VPs all bickering and holding onto information like it's life.

    Pros

The landscaping is nice and security is a great team. Sometimes it's sunny when you pull in the drive. Leaving daily is nice as well.

    Cons

The worst job I've ever worked. Very traditional culture. Management has no clue what they are doing. It's top down. Very cliquish high school favoritism and cowardly unprofessionalism will drive this company under fast. Very "good ol boy" traditional culture that they tried to kill but still lack diversity at the top and in HR (all Caucasian). HR needs an overhaul because employees are afraid to express their strife for fear of retaliation, and HR is in on it too. They are not forward thinking when it comes to forging an environment that encourages productivity.

Egos are huge here, and throwing money at problems is not the way to prevent future occurrences. Two to three outages a day is ridiculous. Change can't happen until bad seeds are plucked out, other ideas considered, adequate training happens and policies and processes revisited and updated.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like garbage because you're in power. Otherwise none, because they aren't open, and sit there waiting on bonuses. Eventually you'll be out of money.
