I worked at Delta Electronics full-time

    Pros

Large electronics manufacturer in power supplies. Chance of learning its comprehensive manufacturing system. Give you extra bonus at an unexpected moment during the flourishing economic environment.

    Cons

Look inside the Hong Kong design centre under Taiwan-based company, you will see the problems of this design centre are very complex. There is totally no direction on every projects, but to try and error in every design. Engineer, esp in Electronic Engineer, are working over time to test, test, and test. On the other hand, Mechanical Engineer is acting as a supporting role for Electronic Engineer, they do not have... enough knowledge to challenge the necessity of such kind of unstoppable test. As a result, what you do is enlarge the loss of money, time, and sample makings. Compare the salary and outcome among Hong Kong team, Taiwan Team, and China Team, the salary of Hong Kong Team is highest because too many posts of managers, but the outcome is always leg behind expectation. First managerial solution of Hong Kong Centre is low salary less reward to the engineering staff and push them overtime. Secondly making unrealistic design goal in order to demonstrating the advanced design capabilities to Taiwan headquarter make you doing negative competition internally. The design goal is poor to none in this design centre so make you headache in project management and project planning. Engineers are, very often, told to do some tasks today that reject yesterday result. You will get deep frustrated and exhausted in this management direction ever-changing environment.

    Advice to Management

Not to involve every details on every project, not to create many unrealistic design goal, giving too much ideas on project only show management wisdom but not solve problems. Customer requirement is stringent and continue to be more, formal engineering training should be provided.
