I have been working at Deltek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Deltek Customer win $28 Billion in Government Contract awards annually.

    Cons

If you don't mind hearing "it is what it is" from your Management, and don't mind rummaging through an exploited territory full of Customers that dislike Deltek for horrible suport, price gouging and general incompetence, then Deltek is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

They wouldn't take my advice, so I'm not offering any.

I have been working at Deltek as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

both employees and contractors are able to work remotely.

    Cons

    1. The project I'm on is the worst project I've been on so far. From unavailable product owners, to clueless "I need a hard time estimate on this not-yet-defined software component" managers, to old-hand Deltek employees who've been there for 20-30 years and have been staring at their own code for so long that they've lost the ability to distinguish the true from the false, and who consequently are not willing to listen to any suggestions of change whatsoever. And when you are working with a vastly bloated, (a 6000 line javascript data grid, really?) legacy code base where even *removing dead code is not a priority*, it's a big problem.

    2. They treat their contractors like dirt. If there's a team somewhere, you certainly aren't on it. You're a code monkey, a commodity, nothing more.

    3. Obsolete laptops - They force you to use their own machines, guess which one I got?
A 2012 era thinkpad with 4 gigs of RAM in it. Let that sink in: they gave a DEVELOPER a machine that my mom would find barely sufficient. (this was in 2016)

I worked at Deltek full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -strong work/life balance
-interaction and close collaboration with various departments
-vibrant atmosphere with strong team morale

    Cons

-difficult to advance roles, especially if young in career
    -pay is not very competitive
-"office politics" tend to happen often

    Advice to Management

When evaluating those who report to you, focus on metrics delivered and output and less on "are you in at 9:00 on the dot and not leaving until after 5:00"

I have been working at Deltek full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There's a lot of cross-departmental collaboration. Folks are quick to reach out when they believe someone else needs to be involved. Many corporate wellness activities with a focus on networking within the company. Still has some start up feel, despite being a large company.

    Cons

Finance leadership does not always communicate. Monthly stand-ups have little to no value, as they assume everyone already knows what's going on (through osmosis?). They can sometimes get stuck in a pattern of doing things "because that's how we've done it before." Accuracy is always prioritized over speed.

    Advice to Management

Collaborate within Finance as much, if not more, than collaboration with other departments. Include non-US operations in the collaboration and monthly meetings. Openness and communication build trust and loyalty.

I worked at Deltek full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I went from temp to perm in a few months. Supervisor was great, job was great, in-house training.

    Cons

Once the distribution team was downsized, out the door did my boss & I went. I felt bad for my former boss, b/c he worked there nearly 11yrs. That's what big companies do, they downsize rather than cross train us. It screwed up both of us, in reference to our resume and left a bad taste in our mouth despite 3 months severance pay. Refusal to let me sit in the very classes where they were training end users on their SW. I didn't think that was a irrational suggestion on my part, expressing interest in learning their accounting SW.

    Advice to Management

Consider better options than downsizing. Deltek ruined its reputation b/c of indiscriminate downsizing regardless of tenure and or good performance appraisal.

    Pros

Amazing place to work. Good place to grow. Great employees and flexibility.

    Cons

Too many transitions. Private to IPO'd, then private again. New owners get to decide when and what they want to do with the company, going public or private. Not good as each transition comes with layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. A more constant course of business ensures growth and instills confidence in employees to give their all in a company they believe in.

I have been working at Deltek full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people on the ground floor making the company work and plenty of benefits for those who excel.

    Cons

Massive change in management led to less of a focus on employee satisfaction and more of a focus on board happiness. Company politics are terrible and advancement is based on who you know, not how well you do. Terrible communication from senior management and lots of shadiness that ultimately leads to people not getting the money they deserve. Not my department, but I once heard quotas for sales tripled and they were not notified, so everyone got way lower commission than they were promised. Pre-2016 I would rate the company 4 stars, but new management has taken over and the company is going in the wrong direction and pays below the market rate for many jobs. Also terrible work life balance. Look elsewhere if you have the choice.

    Advice to Management

Relax a little bit and listen to your employees. Most people on the ground know how to bring in a lot of money for the company, but they don't get the time of day to do it and are instead screwed over at every turn.
