    Pros

Culture - great work - life balance. People are great. Benefits are very nice. Retirement plans are great.

    Cons

Budgetary issues - not a lot of money for development. Communication for senior leadership team is lacking. I don't have much interaction with my manager - she is overloaded and has too much on her plate so not really her fault - but it is frustrating sometimes. This obviously isn't the case for everyone at Deluxe.

    Advice to Management

Reach out to the front line folks who actually talk to the customers more. Tell the Deluxe story to front line folks.

    Pros

Sound product mix and supportive sales staff. Good compensation program.

    Cons

Certain managers are not sincere and understanding of balance between work and home life. They only push to promote their own immediate ends and not the long range health of all involved.

    Advice to Management

Stop giving a free pass to certain regional sales managers such as D. Scott

    Pros

The atmosphear is a casual dress enviroment, which is nice because you can come dressed in mainly anything besides the obvious excpetions (beachware, sweatpants, etc.). Also provide a decent benefits package and a decent salary. It's fairly easy to get time off you need. Human resources is very friendly and knowledgeable.

    Cons

Management is not really with the program. Employee morale is fairly low, there is much favortism. There is not much room for growth, some employees have spent over 20 years in the same entry level position. I have sen one promotion in the 3 and a half years I've been there.

    Advice to Management

Please review resumes, there is a reason they are on file. Also, treat every employee fairly and not favor one over the other. Promotions should be based on skills and talent not family and friend ties.

    Pros

Employees are trying their best to be successful. Great intentioned individuals. Good benefits. Good time off. Good location. A lot of variety in activities and roles.

    Cons

No strategy. Poor leadership. Favoritism is rampant from mid level management on up. Executive leaders don't have a clue of what they are doing. Managers only listen to their favorite employees or newcomers. Strategies are flavor of the month and communication is very poor on results.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees. They have experience and insight.

    Pros

The best reason to work at Deluxe is the people. Many of them seem to care about the business even though there is not a lot of motivating factors for them. Deluxe’s best asset is the people; to bad the company has done layoffs for the last several years.

    Cons

Unfortunately unless you work in the finance area there seems to be no place to move to. They will talk about succession planning but no one ever moves up. Where you start is most likely where you will stay. Deluxe has also not given any pay increases since March of 2008.

    Advice to Management

Take a hit from the shareholders and actually give employees raises. Employees hear from management what a tough economy it is and the company can not afford to give raises. Guess what? Working class families can’t afford not to have an increase. It’s a bad economy for us as well.

    Pros

A lot of opportunity is available if you're willing to grab and own it. Co-workers are overall great to work with. Employees really care about the company.

    Cons

Too much work and not enough people. Must be able to thrive in ambiguous and fast-changing environment.

    Advice to Management

Overall, be nice while you drive hard. Reward and praise your employees often and generously.

    Pros

Really nice people, family feel, great respect shown, competitive pay, superb benefits.

    Cons

People who needed to move on have stayed because the company is a great one to retire from. They say they want new ideas and innovation, but they will shoot down anyone who really tries to implement needed change. There's constant re-organization in an attempt to get the structure right. Leadership has made some disappointing acquisitions in the race to find life outside of checks, before check-printing is gone completely.

    Advice to Management

Give people who need to go the dignified exit they deserve, and make real leadership change. Go out and acquire the best talent and turn them loose.

    Pros

Reputation among customers is good. Customer base loyal.

    Cons

Too many reorganizations. Grasping for next big thing. Sr leadership does not fully understand business.

    Advice to Management

Allow adequate time for programs to take effect, some things might have been successful given time and funding to try alternate approaches. Business knowledge base is eroding which could have serious long term consequences. Value experience of employees.
