I have been working at Demandware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Demandware as a company has a positive, people centric, forward thinking culture.
The benefits and work life balance are great.
They invest a lot of time in internal processes and training. So the company is highly efficient.
If you are in Burlington you probably have good advancement opportunities, but not in deerfield.

    Cons

They buy other companies and try to level the culture across offices, but are not very successful at that. The management style in deerfield is old school. They centralize too much the decisions and try to take control of every detail. From application design, naming conventions, and even firewall rules.

    Advice to Management

You should not hire smart people to tell them what to do, but to ask what they need. Delegating decisions and empowering employees is the only way to scale and to become an enterprise level company.

I worked at Demandware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to work with some cool technologies. Nice location in Burlington. Some really sharp engineers for sure. Great designs. Right place at the right time with a good foundation to build on.

    Cons

Chaos reigns supreme in Engineering. Lots of dead weight that do incredibly little work. And on the other spectrum - ambitious people can get over-worked , dumped on, and burnt out. Very poor at balancing the load . Benefits sub-par. Moderate to high stress environment. When the layoffs come, with next economic downturn, expect the U.S. division to get hit hard as there is over hiring going on, and German division is the mother ship of Engineering with more difficult labor laws to layoff.

    Advice to Management

Engineering is a house of cards. Get things in order while there is still time.

    Pros

I have been around the block and worked at quite a few places. I really enjoy working here. My colleagues are great (smart and friendly), hours are reasonable and very flexible, pay is good, technology is modern and well engineered, company is growing, I like how I work for...

    Cons

I wish they were T accessible but that's OK. Hopefully someday they will have a 401K match because I gave that up to come here. Other than that couldn't be happier.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. The company is growing well. People are generally very happy. Hopefully the IPO will be a success :-)
