Good pay, mediocre management
Oct 26, 2016 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked at Demos' for five years and the pay was good. The best thing about working at Demos' is that they allow you to come back after leaving as long as you left on good terms.
Cons
The management was mediocre, at best. Most of the managers hated their jobs, which made the staff hate their jobs too.

How to grow a business poorly
Dec 28, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Lebanon, TNRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They will hire pretty much any person that walks through the door if they are hiring, regardless of attitude, look, etc. I worked with Demos' for many years, a level of magnitude longer than the usual turnover rate there. For the first few years, it was decent work. Sure, the customer service industry might be a drag at times, but the place was run well, fairly, and so on.
Cons
Within the last year or two the attitude and culture of Demos' internally has changed dramatically. They have gone through 3 'district managers' (aka people in charge of management of all stores). Whoever was running the store you loved years ago is gone and likely replaced by an outside hire. The entire business model has seemingly shifted. Look no further than the prices. What was a place to get a meal for $4.99 a few years ago is now a place where dinner for under $10 is a rarity. This growth and change is directly comparable to the changes internally with employees. Hosts used to be kept for at least a year or so before turning over. Now a month or two is normal. Cashiers used to receive twice a year pay raises for staying with the company. Now not only is that gone, the CEO Peter Demos recently sent out a memo to one of the stores saying that since their store doesn't do as large of sales as the others, they couldn't possibly deserve a raise. Servers are constantly subjected to mortgaging their life to the whim of Demos'. As of late the company can't seem to keep servers up to staff (as they often leave due to poor treatment), and rather than changing the approach to reduce turnover, they just schedule the servers as much as they possibly can, and then beg them to work even more voluntarily. Demos' has always been a company that guided and managed their employees. However, that level of sternness was also matched by a level of understanding and compassion. No longer do those last two values exist among the majority of the management. While Demos' does hire good people for management on occasion, they are heavily trained to either treat the employees as poorly as Demos' prefers, or are forced out. I actually left the company quite a few months ago, so this is in no way a heated, angry review. I just think that anyone researching the potential of working for Demos' should know what they're buying into. Long story short, Demos is a 5 store company trying (very poorly) to act like a 500 store company, with the funds to pay you like a half a store company.
