I worked at Dendreon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent comp, terrific location, mission-oriented staff (cancer company) at the time

    Cons

Company grew fast, developed first approved immunotherapy, decided to go it alone, so did not partner w/big pharma. As a result, company went bankrupt and was eventually acquired in virtual fire sale to rapacious company called Valeant (not valiant).

    Advice to Management

Too late now, but you should have collaborated with more experienced companies once the therapy was approved.

I worked at Dendreon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Site director in Union City is excellent and bringing positive change. The product is unique and meaningful.

    Cons

Poor upper management (off site). Over forecasted and had production layoffs once per year. Went bankrupt and sold (awkward transition). Were just sold again. Hopefully they get it right this time! This uncertainty creates a lot of unneeded stress and employees eventually seek stability elsewhere.
The production schedule forces odd shift schedules for employees.

    Advice to Management

Let the plant run itself. Stay out of the way.

I have been working at Dendreon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people and product (immunotherpy drug for prostate cancer).
Excellent pay, benefits, training and culture.

    Cons

Poor product launch led to being bought by Valeant Pharmaceuticals.
Annual layoffs as a result of poor product launch and poor financial decisions.

    Advice to Management

Involve employees more by bringing back round table meetings with senior management and board members. Dendreon employees are very knowledgeable and the desire to be heard.

I worked at Dendreon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small company meant there was a lot of growth opportunity and it was a great learning experience. Coworkers in other departments were helpful and willing to collaborate.

    Cons

Many of the managers were good at science but not at managing. Obviously the company just couldn't survive, filed for bankruptcy and has been bought out.

    Advice to Management

There were a lot of good ideas and science so hopefully now that it is owned by Valeant they will do something interesting with the technology.

    Pros

Great people, pay, benefits, and passion. Really dedicated to patients and trying to make their lives better.

    Cons

Company grew way too fast and now we're paying the price with Chapter 11.

    Advice to Management

    Too late unfortunately.

I worked at Dendreon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are willing to communicate with your manager about your wants and needs, you should be able to move forward in this company. There are many opportunities to expand your skill set and they encourage you to pursue training that is not available within the company (and may even reimburse you). The product Dendreon makes is amazing and helps so many men. Pay and benefits are pretty good. If you establish boundaries early, you can have a great work/life balance.

    Cons

The company is going through financial trouble and kind of always has been. There seems to be very limited communication across departments and what communication occurs is usually contentious.

    Advice to Management

Talk to each other. Try to work on morale.
