I worked at Denton County Texas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits from health benefits to retirement benefits are excellent. There are many departments so there is lots of opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Some departments have elected officials and elected officials can often do what they want, when they want. So it is not always equal for all employees that fall under some elected officials.

I have been working at Denton County Texas part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked in the district clerks office part-time while finishing my degree. Good pay and benefits, especially for a part-timer. Management was excellent, and always flexible with my hours when school conflicted. Provided excellent training opportunities.

    Cons

Typical of any government job, there is only a finite number of management/upper-level positions, and typically individuals lock those positions up for many many years. This of course limits potential career growth.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, I have no criticism to provide. I had a wonderful time working with you.

I have been working at Denton County Texas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Earning Comp time is easy, very friendly, benefits are decent, all holidays off, vacation accrues fast. Work/Life balance is great.

    Cons

Benefits are getting expensive and worse, they keep trying to move away from the good PPO to HSA. But that is mostly because of Obama Care and new Tax rules that are imposed on employers that give top of the line health insurance.

The salaries are on the low end of the scale. Although, when you weigh the benefits and amount of time off you get compared to the salary... it isn't terrible.

I have been working at Denton County Texas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Retirement is great. Health benefits are OK - but they are gutted further each year..

    Cons

Pay is terrible. 60% market rate. Due to low salary, bottom of the barrel "talent" is prevalent. Positions stay open for long periods of time because they can't attract good employees. Skilled positions are treated the same as unskilled. Nothing gets done quickly, processes are inefficient on purpose. Absolutely no risk taken. No upward mobility unless someone leaves.

    Advice to Management

Competent employees are the ones that leave if you do nothing about the incompetent employees.

I worked at Denton County Texas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, great opportunity to serve customers, and finally there is a mission statement with goals.

    Cons

Stressful environment; "high school" mentality - if you are not "in", there is no promotion; pay scale is same for new employees and five-plus year employees - no cost of living increase.

    Advice to Management

Need diverse training, stop changing job descriptions just to create salary increases within management, and listen to clerks to improve service.

    Pros

Medical benefits are outstanding, but the premiums are rising steadily. It is an overall fairly pleasant work environment.

    Cons

Raises are rare and small. Chances for advancement are slim, especially when beginning in an entry level position.
