I worked at Denton Independent School District full-time

    Pros

Country atmosphere, for those who prefer that environment
    Nice students

    Cons

    Good old boy mentality
    Gossipy and unprofessional administrators
    Much favoritism and nepotism
People who grew up in Denton and went to UNT are given preferential treatment

I worked at Denton Independent School District full-time

    Pros

Small student to teacher ratio. Great coworkers.

    Cons

Even though the school is supposed to be a discipline school, discipline was quite lax and admin didn't back the teachers.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. Discipline the students appropriately and not return them to class instead.

I have been working at Denton Independent School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Paid Holidays and year around pay checks.
Try's to make every employee feel like they are a part of a family.

    Cons

Low pay and looks outside to replace vacant positions instead of looking within the District first. Insurance cost for employees is too high.

    Advice to Management

Give staff an opportunity to advance.

I worked at Denton Independent School District full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many caring teachers. Very diverse socio economic. Great music program. Some of the schools are outstanding. The community provides support to ISD and many teachers love to work here

    Cons

Every principal is allowed to do their own thing. This is a big District but admin building is very small not enough staff to support academics.

    Advice to Management

Limit site based management. This District is very difficult to service from an admin perspective

I worked at Denton Independent School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people who are always willing to help out.

    Cons

Students can be very trying in terms of no desire to be in class. District policies such as retakes and late assignments (no points deducted) tie your hands as far as options and ability to evaluate student progress. Sometimes, I would have no prior evaluation until test since the 15 day late policy had not yet passed to be able to grade homework to determine student understanding.
Additionally, education overall seems to be moving in the wrong direction. Technology is not the key to aid in students understanding. It is just yet another distraction for them and a means for entertainment.

I have been working at Denton Independent School District full-time

    Pros

Reasonable autonomy as a teacher BUT much depends on the principal and the APs on that campus

    Cons

Slightly lower pay than other districts
Like most school districts DISD is a bit top heavy and money for school and classroom level needs is always limited.
There is no such thing as work/life balance in public school teaching.
