    Pros

Friendly people, the outdoor area can be nice...

    Cons

Horrible pay, no upward mobility, unions never fight to raise pay. I met with a union rep who said they hadn’t fought to raise my positions salary in 20 years...! Time off is awful

I have been working at Department of Justice State of Oregon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a wonderful agency to work for and people there do become family.

    Cons

Often a lack of communication is broken down or lost in translation with instructions.

    Advice to Management

Accept new ideas aside from old traditional ways

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Department of Justice State of Oregon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great salary, work/life balance and benefits for attorneys.

    Cons

There is a complete lack of effective leadership at all levels. Managers either micromanage out of fear of how they look to their bosses or don't manage at all out of fear of rocking the boat.

The AG is absent, preferring her political role to that of running a large agency. Agency managers are, by and large, ineffective.

    Advice to Management

This organization needs a culture change. It is too bureautic, too top heavy with poor managers and too concerned with politics.

I have been working at Department of Justice State of Oregon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent salaries and benefits, decent office culture depending on which division you are in

    Cons

Some divisions are very poorly managed, with office cliques, rivalries, favoritism and cronyism taking the place of the mission

    Advice to Management

Trust senior employees to use their best judgment

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Department of Justice State of Oregon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-The software and applications development team is very friendly and communicates well with one another.
-You get to learn along with your team members as they work on learning new frameworks, technologies, etc.
-Very relaxed environment compared to other dev shops.
-Committed to modernization of technologies and frameworks, and always willing to take a look at other tools as needed.

    Cons

-Not much in the way of negatives. Possibly that there is a lot of old legacy code to deal with, and also technology-wise a lot of catching up to do in general, but as far as government technology shops go are fairly modern and are committed to modernization of technology and processes as mentioned above.
