    I worked at Depomed full-time

    Pros

Great people working in the field! Really care about their business and are passionate about their products.

    Cons

Upper management is terrible. May change now that most are gone. Still a couple of Area Directors are around, but most are gone and hopefully things will improve.

    Advice to Management

They are not who they present themselves to be, so be prepared. Need better leadership in the company moving forward to take Depomed on a better course.

    Pros

Fairly good base salary and sales contest to make extra money. Small pharma

    Cons

Company is for sale, no job security.

    Pros

Honestly, the only reason I stayed so long was because I liked some of my coworkers -- though definitely not all of them.

    Cons

Depomed is an awful company to have worked for. Though, they say you learn more from bad experiences than good - let's just say I learned A LOT! Executive staff is all male and white and they don't like listening to anyone who isn't part of the exec team. I hardly ever got to actually do my job because we had too many people in the department trying to do something that I never got to learn my own job! You ask for help and no one wants to help you until you've failed and then it's not to actually help because they have your best interest in mind but because they want to rub your face in it like a dog.

If you're passionate about learning more and getting good experiences DO NOT work at Depomed!

    Advice to Management

Look to your employees for advice and opinions - we all have different experiences to learn from and you hired them for a reason, right?!

    Pros

Good company if looking for steady work/pay check. Not much career growth opportunity. Flexible work/life balance.

    Cons

no focus on excellence. Mediocre performance is acceptable standard.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond filling your own pockets and restore value, profitability and confidence in the organization

I have been working at Depomed full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced environment with passionate and smart people.
    Strong focus on sales results.
    Constantly changing with growth opportunities

    Cons

Very high turnover - people burn out quickly or aren't being developed.
Quite political given the size of the organization and there is a tendency to shift blame.
There isn't really an investment in people development - no genuine feedback.
There is variability in the quality of management in different parts of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Empower your managers and have honest conversations to resolve conflict.

    I worked at Depomed full-time

    Pros

Most folks at HQ are good to work with.
Basic collaboration and willingness to get the job done among bench-level folks.
    Salaries and benefits quite competitive.

    Cons

Leadership is composed of men... only a handful of females in upper management, and even then, they report to men...
Old boys network who look to make themselves richer while ignoring those that have to put in the hours and get the job done.
No pipeline at all, only me-too products with no benefits over existing products.
Back-stabbing and bullying from certain heads of department make the culture intimidating to promote any collaborative discussions and decision making in a team setting. Especially if you're an intelligent female who has succeeded elsewhere and are trying to implement your successes here.
Do not follow their procedures or have systems that are robust. Lazy heads of departments who just want to collect a pay check.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the folks that actually do the work. Listen to their ideas.
Nepotism has never been a useful tool in inspiring collaboration and team work, so stop doing it now.
How about recruiting some women in to senior management?
Dont reward those that constantly bully others and behave inappropriately - have a forum for employees to be able to report this, and have the issues confronted.

    Pros

It is a small company where you can establish relationships with most people at the company. Since many of the processes are not set in place, it is a great opportunity to implement fresh ideas.

    Cons

The salaries at the bottom level are not that competitive. It is hard to bring about improvements within departments with the management in place.

    Advice to Management

Reward the people who do a great job at the bottom since these are the people who bring results to the company.

    Pros

    - Support work life balance.
    - Some really great people.
    - Salary is competitive.

    Cons

    - Lack of accountability throughout organization.
    - Promotions not justified.
    - Performance review process needs improvement. No metrics or peer reviews.
    - Lacks adequate program for personnel training and development.
    - New personnel suggest fresh and efficient ideas for improvement but are immediately confronted with road blocks due to long time staff who are intimidated and reluctant to change.

    Advice to Management

Fix the performance review process so that employees are properly rewarded for their accomplishments.
