    Pros

This company is fantastic as support for its' professionals. It has great upside potential in the marketplace and is growing exponentially. Super place to work!

    Cons

I am an older professional so as would be anticipated I find the upward mobility restricted.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to new ideas.

I worked at Design Group (MO) full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Diverse range of projects, clients and industries. You will learn a lot about different technologies quickly

      Cons

Lots of bureaucracy and "control", below average pay and benefits, long hours and travel. Worst part is way too many unbillable "Partners" for each engineer so very top heavy organization. Modus Operandi is to wear out the young people to pay for the people at the top.

      Advice to Management

Needs a fresh perspective about providing client value.

I worked at Design Group (MO) full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Great place to get experience. You get involved in all phases of projects (Electrical Design, PLC Programming, HMI Programming, Project Management).

      Cons

No work life balance, compensation is below industry average, the bonus structure is terrible. Policy gives 2 weeks of vacation until 7 years. I routinely worked more than 2000 billable hours a year. The company seems to churn and burn engineers, which is great for experience but there is nothing keeping you there for more than 2-3 years.

      Advice to Management

Find a way to reward employees who are making a difference. Whether it be through compensation or benefits.

I worked at Design Group (MO) full-time

      Pros

Some of the people here are really good to work with but all of the good people leave quickly.

      Cons

Poor management; leaders do not take the time to get to know their employees. Health insurance is expensive and the vacation policy, salary, and 401(k) are below average. While there is flexibility with hours, some clients are 1-2 hours away, which makes for a long daily commute. On top of not being respected and valued by the management, the poor benefits make many people leave within a year of starting there. The culture...

I worked at Design Group (MO) full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Started out as being a great people centric place to work, then they grew too fast for their own good.

      Cons

2 year non-compete. They want you to think they own you once you're an employee. If you find a better opportunity (and trust me, there are plenty out there) they threaten you with the non-compete. They try to tell you that you can't work for any other engineering firm, or any client that DG works with for two years, which is absurd. If you wanted to know how indentured servants felt, then try leaving and bettering...

      Advice to Management

Drop the two year non-compete. One of the only engineering firms around that makes employees sign this. Not a good way to show your current and future employees that they "matter". Also - find better health care coverage. The cost for benefits is outrageous!

      Pros

Good oppotunities for personal knowledge gaining. Throw you at straight out the gate which I enjoyed

      Cons

First forcing recent Grads/First time employees sign a 2 year non compete and not mentioning it until you are ready to sign the paper work is disrespectful. Anyone considering a job here needs to take into account that you can not work for a competitior for 2 years after leaving. This is not about losing competitive advantageous' it is solely for punishing you for leaving. Would never work here again, 1.No Real Support...

      Advice to Management

Rethink your bonus program. You have PM's who will put there name on a proposals to get the bonus', and the once who did the actual work get nothing. Your benefits cost way too much for what they supply.
